  • Gsxr 750 is a bit of meh bike, either a decent 6 or go for the 1000.

  • cbr6 rrrrr the 03=06 bikes are really sorted IMO great brakes with honda pads and an engine that is a peach. I'd say go for one that has had a full system and a decent dyno set up. More power and more MPG.

  • If you have the cash pre christmas is best.

  • Went and sat on a few 600s and 1000s today.
600s are no go for me. So cramped with 36" inseam.

Was going to test ride the cbr1000rr but dealer said £2500 excess. I'm a bit pragmatic for that.

  • Bugger if I even touched it. Tank/Air/Throttle bodies start coming off. I take one look at the front body and immediately abandon the work. Whomever worked on it before really hammed up some of the screws.

  • Lack of JIS screwdriver does that.

  • Ride them and before you do tweak them before you get on to ride them.

  • £2500 excess made me not want to. I ride sensible, but accidents happen.

When you say tweak? How far, doubt they'll be sorting the suspension out for me.

I did think about doing a ron haslam track day, to get a real good feel.

  • @Markyboy - 1198 over the 1098 all day long, the engine is a different beast altogether and the S has traction control. I was obsessing about one of these a while back, then went off them after looking at a 1199s but after riding both would totally have one. One of the all time great motors, especially for the road.

MV f4s are beautiful but heavy, handle shite at slow speed and have bad fueling. One for the living room. supposed to be much better at full clip but on a litre bike that doesn't happen much.

Never ridden any of the others.

    1198s gets my vote!

  • By the by - I disagree totes with this. The 750 has been wicked since the very first SRAD. As a road bike it got even better after supers switched to 1000s - much longer stroke motor tuned for the road. Way more flexible than a 600 and a boat load quicker.

A (very) well set up first gen FI 750 proddie racer is still probably the best track bike I've ridden. Fast but you could still get after it and the sweetest steering imaginable.

  • I've had a go on a CBR600RR on a Ron Haslam track day. I am 188cm, so similar height - it is a squeeze but all sportsbikes are going to be. Litre bikes are essentially the same dimensions as supersports.

It doesn't really matter though, as you are moving around on the bike so much compared to a static position when riding on the road. Plus you aren't going to spend much more than 20 minutes max per session anyway.

  • Was it worth the £300?
I looked and saw the price and thought it was a bit steep.

  • It was certainly a lot of fun, was my first go on a track. You can get a lot more track time for less money (and still get instruction) at track days. If you are worried about your own bike then there are a few places that'll hire supersports bikes.

I didn't pay nearly £300 though, had a voucher with a significant discount. It's certainly a very easy way to get some track time though.

  • The more I watch it the more I like it:

180cc 2 strokes, prepared like that, sounds tons of fun.... Any thoughts?

  • Cool bikes, very much a mafia vibe about them. Suitable for drive by hold ups etc. Kind of pointless now there are a lot of large engine scooters to choose from, the Gilera 180 was probably the better bet for parts availability etc.

In other news I have to offload a couple of restoration projects I've been hoarding in the street. My location has come under the scrutiny of the long arm of the law so I've got to move on a tzr250 and a kc100.

If anyone's interested in a 2 stroke project I've got tons of parts for the TZR. It's a total project though you're not going to be turning it around with a few hours tinkering. I'm prepared to let them go easy to a buyer who can collect, I could possibly deliver sensible distance, I have 2 sets of fairings, spare wheels loads of parts, it could be broken and sold for decent money but I don't have the time or the space. If you want more details or to come and see it next week then pm me.

  • What year/model TZR? Got any pics?

  • My buddy had one of those - it was epic. Up to 50 or so it was as fast as the same vintage Fireblade. Bits fell off every time he rode it until finally the throttle jammed wide open and it looped itself into a skip directly outside Harrods. Apropos.

A marvellous idea but the execution was sketchy as fuck. No faster point to point, city tool when it worked though.

  • I'll add some early next week. Must be late 80's 2ma. I basically had 2 bikes so there's tons of spares. Last had it running 4 years ago, it took a couple of hours changing carbs and Jerry rigging a battery. Everything is there to get it running, will take time and space though and I'm out of both.

  • Nawwww, TZR was my second bike. Must resist nostalgic buy.

  • It's nostalgia that's had me holding on for 10 years. I love the TZR but I've reached a point where I'm probably not going to get back to that time in my life.

  • So far the only thing sure is that the engine is an abnormal vivace , this one is also pushed, so a train ticket only one way to Blackpool is definitely worthy, at least for having a go on this girl.

Then, if the handling is good, I think I will be on my way on the M6 > M40, probably Tuesday.

My main worry is the front when entering the cornering... I read a lots of things not so good, and it needs to be a zig zag business, if it wants belong to me. Speaking with the seller he told me that that's the reason why the front shock has been changed with a Yamaha R1 one. Will see.

The reason why I'm not looking at a R6 or a CBR is too long now to be explained here, and I don't think many are interested anyway.

Regarding the two strokes of this kind and their problems, I can only say that the older I get the stronger is the urge of going back in to the cradle...

And yes, I don't want to grow up.

  • That's because 10 years is not long enough.

  • Exactly my feeling, it was my rainy day project. Please don't convince me to keep it!

On the 180 my main concern would be parts, it was hard enough to get parts for that marque when they were in production.

  • There are a lots of parts on eBay, and I'm sure there are also other channels for that. The two stroke machines needs a special care and if used competently they hold more than when they finish in wrong hands. I won't do racing, and it can be customised... In the event of a crash could be a problem though.

  • Handling on the dragster wasn't that great from memory. Small wheels always put me off a bit but I agree on the 2 strokes holding their value if you look after them. Unlikely to be any more big bore models getting made with the emissions issue. Probably worth a punt if you like customising your bikes.
