Yep, I'd queue up to hand over my money for a Rolex that has been pimped with an aftermarket dial and some chippable pvd coating at a massive premium. A watch that has had it's cast iron five year Rolex guarantee nullified, and can only be serviced by third parties as Rolex won't touch it with a bargepole. Hell yeah!

Just the budget then? :oP

Bamford = dog shit

Yes.
But they obviously pay attention to Honkidink.
The heritage range isn't bad.

The 5 turned up, a little scratched up but should be toothpasted back to a moderate standard.
Want to stick Milgauss hands on it, how hard is switching hands?
(possibly only the second hand)
Also, has anyone had any dealings with Yobokies (Harold?)? -

He has a bit of a mark cavendish look about him in that picture. I wonder if he can sprint.

I bought this from him a few years back with no problems. Pretty easy to deal with over email from what I remember although his site is a bit confusing

Exactly. Someone on TZ linked to the picture of the mil-sub copy that Hodinkee posted:
sloppy glue around pip
rougher-than-spray-on-primer coating quality
crap paint job on bezel/dial indices
more sloppy insert/dial paint and rough metal coating
dial printing evidently done by carved-potato-stamp techniqueAnd then look at the photochop hands that aren't even the same colour as the dial plots.
£14,000 and looks like a £10 job bought on a Turkish beach.

Fuck I hate that Christmas cracker branding on the internal bezel.
Is like a chocolatier finish.
Thorntons.

easiest if you just email him and let him know what you're after, he'll give you prices and payment details

Fucking snoopy hands. You're zooming in looking for microscopic flaws when he puts fucking snoopy hands on the watches and charges a nurse's annual salary for the pleasure.

I still think the guy who signed the Rothko is a better artist.

Anybody able to recommend somewhere to get a brietling automatic serviced, I used to use the small watch repair shops on the Clerkenwell road but not sure if any are still left up there
-
• #20221
There are still two shops there. If you want to do mail order then Richard Askham does good work and so does Christian at Watchguy.

I've been a slight lurker on this thread and am wanting to get a mechanical watch again, so would appreciate any advice, should you guys be able to help. I'd like a vintage mechanical watch but other than that not too fussy, just something to get me on the ladder and to pos trade upwards.
Any advice on the below: value, condition and the choronograph issue? (having the chronograph running affects timekeeping)
-
• #20223
Timekeeping being affected while the chronograph is running indicated that it probbaly needs a clean/oil/service. The extra load of driving the chronograph works should not significantly affect the timekeeping.
Crown is wrong.
Dial and hands are quite tarnished.
It's a nice looking watch. The Heuer logo on the dial may make it more expesive than a watch that's technically equal.

Much appreciated for the advice, point granted about the Heuer logo possibly pushing the price up - partly why I'm watching. Will see how it goes and have a price in mind just reluctant to spend a lot on a lemon. Enjoying just looking at these vintage watches on eBay, some of those old Breitlings are really nice but here's to dreaming.
