Hey mate,
Just had a bloke come into SBC with the bike, tried to get him to leave it at the shop and we'll get it back to you. No luck sorry. This was about 20/30 mins ago.
He went to a block of flats, Cranston Estate, Mintern street - either Kinder house or one behind.
Said he bought it from a market and was going to go try get his money back. didn't really fancy pressing him too hard so had to let him get away.
Hope this helps mate.

I parked my bike in plain sight in Dalston square last Friday between 19.30 and 22.30. Only to find it without derailleur when returned to it.. Someone must have really needed one since it was just a 105 5800 that you can buy for 29£ online. This never happened to me before.. I was really baffled

Dalston Square eh? Probably militant hipsters enforcing a single speed fatwa.
You're lucky they didn't spot weld the freewheel for good measure.

Haha!

Maybe they hoped it would be left overnight so they could return to steal it?

Man, that's a joke, sorry to here that Gio, I've got a short cage 5800 rear mech you can have for cheaps if you need one, as I need the medium cage version. From your photo it looks like your chain is intact, so did they break it only to rejoin it!? If so, how bizarre is that....
The most recent components to be pinched from one of my bikes was a pair of Magura HS33 hydraulic callipers. The punks cut the hoses and undid the hex bolts, left brake fluid all over bike.
I've taken to sticking window putty in the bolt heads of anything especially pinch-able, as it starts soft so is easy to fill with but then dries hard enough to make unscrewing bolts tricky, hopefully enough of a deterrent for most thieves.

I think they just unscrewed one of the pulleys to open the tensioner in two and remove it from the chain.
I'm sorted already, I needed the bike over the weekend so 29 quid at Evans did the trick.. But yes, total bummer.
@Clockwise doubt it, this looked really neat as if they needed just that (also, bike was locked with two locks)

Hey man,
thanks for letting me know. what did he want at the shop? was he trying to sell it to you? I'll go have a look round there today, doubt he'll have locked it up anywhere in plain sight but who knows. any more info you have would be really appreciated. it's futile but i might let the police know that someone came into your shop with it so any description or anything would be really helpful.
