  • The lost in the third world solution to this, if a tap doesn't work, is to start what's left of the thread and then force it in with some solder wrapped round the threads.

    Your old dad's way would be to get a guy in maintenance to blob in some TIG weld and re-cut a rough but useable thread.

    I would just buy a new one though, the thread insert isn't all that cheap.

    Touch wood, it's not something that's ever happened to me.
