Heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbors, films, football, beer, and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of @sausagefingers mind. To keep him in control was not difficult….

So I almost got stung with the start times for the men's road race. Google and BBC are telling me the men's MTB starts at 16:30 BST. Can anyone tell me anything different?

Haha, also, "because if you did, nobody would believe you!". Really? Is it that implausible that Neymar scores the winning penalty in a shootout?
I mean if they brought Pele on he did I might be a bit more surprised.

They were both accurate about yesterday's MTB event.

With MTB racing these days, are there any rules about what sort of bike you have to ride? Apart from the rocky section yesterday, I would've thought it would've been quicker if you went the Johnny T route with drops on a cross type bike.

I am assuming drops are still banned. It seemed to take forever for the UCI to allow 29ers back in the day.

The handlebars extensions of a triathlon or time trial type are forbidden, but traditional
barends are authorized.

Well that sucks.

I wouldn't have thought the riders were that concerned with aero benefits of drops at the speeds they race. They mostly appear to be running much wider bars that you used to see in XC races too.
Also, the course really is far more technical than it looks on TV.
