Shimano quick release will be more than fine, they were solid on the touring bike.

You can still use the rws QR skewers - there's two versions, one that converts any 9mm to kind of bolt on and one that converts dt Swiss rws hubs to 9mm through axle.
You want the former if your hub has a 9mm QR axle fitment. If you have replacable end caps you can probably bodge it to work with the later.
Or yea - XTR skewer.
