  • Horses should get the medal (or maybe actually a bail of hay or some other horsey treat they'd like) not the riders.

    Also, saw some members of the hockey team on the telly earlier today, thought it was a bit weird that they get a medal each, shouldn't it just be one for the team?

  • I know road cycling is a bit different, but is it the only 'team' based sport where only one member of the national team gets a medal?

  • Triathlon as well. And what happened there helpfully illustrates the problem with team medals for road cycling. Gold and silver were picked up by competitors from the same country. If you gave out team medals what would you do then? Would you give Jonny Brownlee and Gordon Benson a medal as well for being there solely to assist Alistair? Would you then have to give Alistair Brownlee and Gordon Benson a silver medal too or ignore that Jonny came across in the silver medal position and go down to the next placed competitor?

    The big issue here is that both triathlon and road cycling are both team and individual events.
