Shame the Nelson's not getting ridden, could you just put a positive rise boner stem on there and use it for track/tarck, or would it still break your spine?

Columbus mud disc fork arrived for a new project. Thought ordering without paint would be fine but I'm worried it might suffer water damage or chips to the bare carbon. Should I spray on some clearcoat before riding it?

Before I go buy a second pompino, is there a list of OTP sscx frames somewhere?

Is it possible to cold set a Pompino to 130mm OLD?

I actually have one of the old 135mm spaced Pomps in L that I will be shifting soon if that's of any interest.

Aren't they famous for cracking at the chainstay/BB junction? I'd be wary of doing anything which pulled on that, or any other, weld. If you build the jig to thoroughly immobilise the joints, then putting an s-bend in the stays should be mostly harmless.

Water doesn't damage carbon .. It's UV or when you break the fibers that a setup for failure is introduced.

You need to use a UV resistant clear coat .. or use a specific carbon polish / wax which has a UV protection additive

It won't do much at all to the carbon fibres, but it can degrade the resin matrix.

The principle benefit of fibre reinforced composites compared with homogeneous materials is that small chips don't lead to bigger problems (more precisely, the composite structure has mechanisms to resist crack propagation which don't exist in crystalline materials)

While this is true, it's the polymer matrix which is at risk, and it turns out that adding water to the mix alongside UV exposure does significantly accelerate the matrix erosion

Lots of naked carbon out there, the nudity doesn't seem to be a primary cause of failure. Interesting anecdote via Leonard Zinn

Since UV degradation is a long-known problem with polymers, a huge amount of R&D effort has gone into making them more stable.

Latest dumpster find! MBK touring frame and fork - hot pink with lowrider eyelets and room for 45c slicks front and back :)

Fork swap is a success! Run out of Mastik One though, so rear tyre isn't glued yet. Which is also handy, because it's pretty badly dished.

Really pleased with how it's coming together though.

Is conti glue compatible enough with mastik one that I can use it for the wet layer?
