  • Don't think he ever claimed it would be an MMO, more like the multiplayer in dark souls

  • This is the main thing I'm looking at. Especially given the huge scale of it. I mean Kerbal Space Program has multiplayer on its roadmap. It has been modded in (a la Just Cause 2) and kind of works, but it's been made clear that it's not exactly going to pop up overnight.

Personally the thing that gets me most about the NMS claims is that I can't help but feeling that it was known by Murphy that it wasn't going to happen and instead he said that it's very unlikely to happen "because of the scale of the game". As opposed to multiplayer simply not being a feature.

That just struck me as being intentionally misleading.

I'm not "hating" Murphy, nor have I grown a neck-beard due to holding that opinion. It's just a slippery slope to outright lying which I'd rather was not a trait of people who are keeping us up to date with the development of their game.

When people are talking about features of an upcoming game, I'd much rather see something along the lines of: "This is what's in already and done. This is what's in and needs polished. This is what we're going to add before it gets released. This is a list of stretch targets. This is something we have no plans for.".

Can't really see that having a negative effect on the hype.

  • Who is Murphy?

  • Is that easy to do?

I've no horse in this race. As I said a while ago, I'd not even heard about this game until three weeks or so ago. But what I've seen/read does point to deliberate obfuscation, IMO.

More importantly: Deus Ex. So much on, so not sure it's a good idea to buy it, but...

  • it's easier to 'turn off' as it's not a key element of the game. You can happily play dark souls with out ever having to go online.

  • Wait for the reviews ;)

I'll play it regardless of reviews. #fanboy

  • I hope the same didn't apply to Deus Ex: The Fall!

As far as I recall, some ex-Ionstorm folks are releasing a game later this year, might be worth looking into. Will get more details later.

Oh yeah, it was System Shock 3, duhhh!

  • Do anyone feel there's not much add-on in Fallout 4?

Was just wondering if they were going to deliver any more DLC. Nothing on the radar?

  • Did you get the Game Boy Micro through eBay or find a legit seller elsewhere? Been trying to pick one up myself but can't seem to 'win' any at around £40!

  • Nuka World at the end of Aug

  • Deus Ex reviews look solid. ~8/10 on PC. Think I might pre-order it

  • There goes my honeymoon.

  • well there could be worse ways to celebrate it ;)

  • 32 quid here, best deal https://uk.gamesplanet.com/game/deus-ex-mankind-divided-steam-key--3072-1

due to shite sterling, this is cheaper than even the 25% off in the US

  • Interesting take on NMS. I think this articulates a fair bit of my thoughts on this type of game.

No Man's Sky is Elite for the 21st century. Pointless? Maybe – but also sublime

  • The Kotaku review took a similar line, hating the first play through for it not being what people typically expect from a game then really enjoying it the second time when they slowed down to just enjoy the experience.

Still haven't jumped in myself, got too much on, but quite looking forward to it - maybe I'll wait for a price drop at this point.

  • It's reallllly good. A bit like a slower paced less over the top GTA, also has an undead version with Zombies which was cracking too.

  • That's a good description, I actually enjoyed the pace of it.

It's nice to explore and survived, although learning the alien language of blob is a bit much.

  • I don't understand how people can describe NMS as exploration when everywhere you visit is so near identical, at least in terms of functionality. We were told the stats about how it would be impossible for every system to be visited before our actual sun dies, and yet in game everywhere does seem to have been inhabited and littered with exactly the same pods, bases, monoliths, plants etc.

Even 'exploring' a planet is largely monotonous because there is zero distinction across their entire surfaces. The lack of any map or coordinate system makes planning or tracking your progress impossible so you can't plot where you're going or tell where you've already been. Your ship has a scanner and radar, neither of which seem to do anything remotely useful. Find something interesting on a planet but need to do something else (because inventory) before returning to it? Good luck with that. :)

The comparison with the original Elite describes some nuanced game play that needed skill (docking) and thought (trading). Those are just two very obvious examples where NMS is completely inferior to a game made over 30 years ago.

  • I was wondering how NMS stacked up against Elite.

Continuing the space theme, anyone played Adrift?

  • Has anyone been playing the new Hitman? Is it worth it?

  • Yeah, that's a fair piece and I think it's why so many Gamers-with-a-capital-g hate it so much - it's because it's not FOR them. It's not goal-orientated. It doesn't have a 50hour+ campaign (who has time for those campaigns?!). It's about atmosphere and immersion and aesthetics, it clearly has a sense of humour and irony. These are not things your average Gears Of War fan is into.

That's not to say the game doesn't have problems. There're a lot of bugs, and the game design is flawed (it clearly wants you to play the Atlas path one way but doesn't give you enough information to do so, leading to frustration at the end unless you've spoiled it for yourself on the internet). But I'm confident those bugs will get ironed out, and I'm also confident they'll add more to do in this wonderful universe they've created. For now there's nothing else like it.
