It's a great gesture but the debt was all out of statute meaning it couldn't actually be reclaimed unless the people in debt voluntarily acknowledge the debt or make any kind of payment as this would restart the statute of limitations...

Yep I saw that. But it's still a good way to highlight the bizarre system of re-selling debts.

And all this reselling of debts also kicked off a fine banking crisis on other debts.
