Changed the bars, mudguards and put a wald basket on. Lovely and fun to ride although the back of the basket seems to be always sliding downwards despite tightening everything.

It's because you have the handlebar tabs set horizontal, and basket up way too high.
Your steering will benefit from having the basket as low and close to the headtube as possible.
The load will be steadier, and the basket has nowhere to slip if the handlebars tabs are as close to vertical as possible. I've been running this setup for over a year and the basket's solid. One other thing you need to do is either switch out all the nuts for Nylock ones, or put a dab of blue loctite on every bolt. I found that out the hard way...

Thanks, hmm, im guessing bending required as ive not those useful looking adjustment pieces. Its been crashed before so not too fussed about it,

I had a Road Rat and ended up swapping it for a Pompetamine, but mostly because I had the flat bar version. There's not much in it, I marginally preferred the pomp

Chucked my Pomp back together again today. Spare parts build really. Might fire the Blackburn Outpost rack on the front of it, I have a bit of stainless racking I could attach to it to make a nice flatbed.
Excuse the instagram filter, bike blended into the background without it.

Hi Mr_B, that setup looks good! Do you have the basket attached to the same braze on as your fenders? And is that a Wald 137?
-
• #6008
It's a Wald 1372GB and yes, it does share the fender tab.
SKS Longboards are light and put no stress on the fork, so I saw no reason not to stack them using a longer bolt. -

Are they full Vs or mini? Does the cable between the brake arms interfere with the mudguards?
-
• #6010
Full Vs (Avid SD7), for precisely that reason. Mini-Vs would interfere, but these clear easily.
Anyone still trying to drag some life out of an old pair of Shimano parallel-push Vs would do well to snag some new Avids.
V cheap from CRC, and far more powerful than my older brakes. -

Nice, and those Cane Creek drop V levers? I think I'm going to have to go full V.
-
• #6012
I was about to change the brakes on my Pompino with SKS Chromoplastics to mini v. Does this mean if I do I'll have issues with the cable wanting to occupy the same space as the mudguard?
-
• #6013
YES! I was really pissed off when I touched front brake. Setup was spesh cx comp 35mm with 45mm wide bluemels mudguards.
-
• #6014
Thanks. Saved me some wasted cash.
-
• #6015
Seconded. I feel it can be bodged by adding an extra bit of metal to the mudguard mounting bracket behind the fork crown, but I've never got round to it. I just put up with my mudguard brushing my front tyre EVERY FUCKING TIME I brake.
-
• #6016
Is the intention of the extra bit of metal to lower the mudguard closer to the tyre?

Yurp

Thank you so much for the detailed pics! This is making me lean towards getting the same Wald, as fitting a standard front rack is a pain with the stock v4 fork, which has no hole in the front of the crown.

Fizzy.bleach, Cranky, AndrewG
I have Tektro 926ALs (80mm) on my stock v4 fork, and had to make a new longer bracket to attach to the fork crown so that the cable would not rub on the top of the fenders. The setup is very neat, and the fenders (Longboard P45s) sit nice and close to the tyres. I'll try to take some pics tonight if I have time.

• #6020
That would be great. Much appreciated.
-
• #6021
No, Tektro RL520

Maybe for riding in wet that would work. When mudguard is that close to the tire, snow clogs up and you get even more badly snow covered feet and lower leg as when riding without mudguards at all. My mate always made fun of me riding just with clip on rear mudguard. :D #truestory

That issue was what got me started on basket lyfe. The EC70X fork has no hole up front either.
I previously had a shitty little Goldtec Sunlite rack that bolted to the canti bosses with a support tab running under the fork crown to the back.It was fucking useless, and eventually the cold & fatigue caused one of the alloy(!) tabs to snap.
I know it looks like that rack has been crushed in an accident, but it hasn't. That's just how badly made they are...

Hi, just checked on one website and im seeing that they have added Raw Burn pompino frames for pre order, however there are no any photo. Any idea how frame looks in such "color"?
-
• #6025
Something like the Goldsprint "flamed raw" frames probably:
???
alternative to Pompetamine:
omnium cxc -> http://omniumcargo.dk/omnium-one-and-cxc/
ok.. only medium clearances e.i kojak 35mm + mudguard should fit with the longer fork version, but racier geometry
