  • Cheers, wish I could find the patch again! Yes was my time, on target for abour 11 to 12 hrs at Dusk til Dawn if I can night run ok.

Jurek balls are ace, make your own = cheap and simple.

Well done @HatBeard bring on 2017 for another go.

  • Good work Hatbeard. Not sure I could do an event like that, sounds pretty destructive on the body.

Just checked out those Jurek Balls, they look good. I read Run or Die over the weekend and Kilian Jornet talked about energy cake in it; anyone got any idea what that might be?

After 10 days off and a couple of gentle jogs I'm doing a 5000m this evening in Wimbledon. My target time was 15:59. I will be amazed if I get anywhere near that. Should be a decent evening though and a good marker to push on from for a couple of September 5ooos and 5ks.

  • Loving my running at the moment - It's pretty much all made up by run-commuting, but I'm getting in 2 sessions a day working out at about 7mi per day and I'm definitely getting fitter:
    Stat Alert
Jun - Avg. Pace 7:42min/mi, Avg. HR 162
Jul - Avg. Pace 7:48min/mi, Avg. HR 148
Aug - Avg. Pace 7:40min/mi, Avg. HR 149
current resting HR down to about 42BPM

  • Does anyone have any Saucony Kinvara in UK9.5 - They're now my absolute favourite model and looking to hoarde a few...

  • run4it.com have Kinvara 7 in stock (£110) in 9.5. They also have Kinvara 6 (£55) if you don't care about colours or last year's model...

Have ordered from run4it before and they were fine.

  • That sounds good @pifko. A solid Base for the next target.

Attempting to go sub 16 after two weeks of no running and two previous weeks of endurance but little speed didn't work out for me tonight. Good little event at hercules Wimbledon though. Keep your eye out for it next year. 5 seeded races with pacers.

  • The charity I work for has some places left in the Royal Parks half marathon - the deadline is tomorrow, so they are free places with a reduced minimum sponsorship of £225. PM me if you are interested!

  • With thanks again to @Pifko new vest debut tomorrow, should stand out in the crowd...

  • Good luck to @rhb and all racing this weekend!

  • That vest is amazing, I am well jell.

  • There's a matching retro cap in my lbs. Overkill tho no?

  • Race the train is a tremendous race. Enjoy it. Beat the train! Good luck. Enjoy that marquee and the celebrations after.

  • Yeah, been going for 12 years now perhaps missed one year and was only watching last year as sidelined by lung.

Should be camping tonight & tomorrow night but last night discovered our car has cracked windscreen so not risking driving it, getting lift there and back tomorrow so will miss the marquee shenanigans.

Will be back next year for the full camping experience again and a first tilt at the v40 in either 10km or full distance.

  • Race the Train was literally the one race I really wanted to do at the beginning of the year and I only went and bloody missed it. What a knob.

    Enjoy @rhb

  • Get on it next year for sure...

  • Windy. Tailwind out, brutal headwind back.

Started too far back but made up ground well on first rd section then roughly held position until half way hr around 165-170 mostly. Turn in 49 spot on.

First singletrack I dragged a small group across to a bigger group then pressed on. Was (relatively) flying around mile 12 picking off groups of runners with some cheeky drafting for recovery. Then we hit the road at mile 13 and my legs said enough. Lost 3 places on run in but could've been worse.

Finish line clock said 1.43.55 but not seen official results. Was just ahead of the train but only saw it briefly early on.

Ave hr overall 173 max 189, v.tough second half.

Fish n Chips in Bala now headed home.

  • Am meant to be doing 10 miles on my marathon plan today but my legs are totally noodles today, nothing in them at all.

  • ^ ditto got 1hr to do legs not yet in agreement.

Turns out finished 77 of 800+ yesterday only 96 beating train.

  • Went out in the end, was doable but I'm shattered now.

  • Nice one, it's the tough sessions make the difference.

  • Excellent work @rhb congrats

Working on endurance for me this weekend. Tried the heel lock way of tying my shoes for the first time. My god what a difference! #suchanoob!

  • I know it's probably been posted here but I haven't got the strength to do the search. What would be people's recommendations for socks. Warm/cool weather ankle length preferably. I'll have quit running by winter hopefully and cultivating a warm Christmas belly.

  • I use 1000 mile socks and never had any problems with them.

  • I rotate through a variety:
    Hilly Monoskin
    1000mile socks (double-layer)
    Nike Anti-Blister

  • The correct answer though, is no socks. As endorsed by @kl
