  • Thanks, I'll measure the depth required tonight and drop you a message.

  • I'm after some discreet mudguards for my Mercian. The hammered Honjo ones I have are alright but a bit temperamental, twee and the clearances are too tight. Are Salmon Profils still a thing? I'm only interested in metal, no plastic shite!

  • Tyre size? PDWs or Gilles Berthoud?

  • Velo Orange

  • Need advice for some guards.

I'll have a bike with large clearances that will run most of the time on road with probably 32c tires on. I'd like mudguards that I can fit but easily remove when I want to fit some more robust tires and take the bike off road. What options are out there that are still full/long guards but are easily removed and re-fitted?

  • What do you regard as easily removed and refitted?

Most mudguards are mounted with only 3-4 bolts. You won't be changing tyres that often right? So not much effort to unscrew some bolts once you do.

I use clip-on mudguards on my fixie, but mainly because it doesn't have eyelids.

  • I suppose I mean <5 mins effort each time.

  • Anyone got any 26"x60mm Berthoud guards they're not wanting anymore

  • Just chuck a rear MTB clip on guard then

  • I have some 700c x 60mm if those would work?

  • Hmm, they might do. Will investigate

  • 700 x 40c tyres. What are my options for fitting mudguards? There's not much room left

  • Improved stiffness of front overhanging section of VO mudguards with a bit of extra rack strut, drilled and threaded on both ends, and an old leather washer I had.

  • Recommendations for guards to go on a Day One disc currently running 35mm tyres?

SKS Chromos are rattling too damn much.

Leaning towards VO hammered 45mm but blurb says they'll do tyres up to 35mm, will 35s be toight like a mouses ear?

  • Do NOT go for Salmon Profil.

GB is a lots stiffer and stronger.

  • 45mm would be fine up to 35mm, go for GB for solid construction.

  • GB seem to come in 40 or 50mm, 40mm are going to be too narrow I think.

The 50mm will be the external measurement? I'll need to check I have room for em, think the SKS I have now are about 45mm and there's not bags of room left.

  • Does anyone know of guards that will fit a defy 0 with 28mm? Im hoping to put some 28s shortly. Im using the stock 25s atm and seem plenty of clearance. I read mixed reviews on giants own brand fenders.

Alternatively do i get some ska clip ons s/h to save time?

  • The 50 should still work with a little dremelization.

  • Hmmm, So it's VO which come in black and will go better with the bike and should fit relatively easily without modification or GB which are probably better but only come in silver and will need the dremel. Decision decisions.

  • ^ I've gone for the VO black hammered in 45mm. Mainly because I could find them in stock whereas everywhere seems to be out of stock of the GBs.

  • pics when it happens

  • Will do.

They will look much better, and although less strong than GB, they're perfectly strong enough if well installed.

They do however have a resistance threshold, in case of an impact with a 38 tons vehicle... Didn't stop me from reordering same spec exactly, good stuff.
