When I ride the derny for a Keirin I pull off a good bit before the pursuit line as even from there it can be a bit of a job to get the bike slowed to a suitable speed before the corner. Derny rider may be slowing on the track to leave him less to do on the apron?
Ours ain't got the big 180mm hydro discs that the elmotos do though.

seems like he drops off suddenly right after the 200m line, and most weirdly he seems to brake on the 50m before.
