  • Result! Good to know we're not all just paying to be ultimately told to sod off.

  • I love that she sends you photos - so cute!

  • Has anyone ever managed to wean their cats off wet food?

  • Has anyone ever managed to get their cat to do anything?

  • Yes, induced sleeping in them...

  • Can I ask why you want to feed only dry? If it's for convenience I'd seriously have a rethink. Dry foods are quite bad for cats, there are extremely high in carbohydrates (risking diabetes), can leave a sticky residue on their teeth leading to problems there & some cats then don't drink enough water as they should get most of it from their food.

Catface likes his dry food so I have relented & give him a few every day to keep him happy, but his main meals are wet high protein, low carbohydrate meaty meals. His diabetes is now mostly under control through a more natural diet. You'd be amazed at the amount of unnatural (to cats ie. Potato, rice, vegetables) ingredients there are in most cat foods.

  • has anyone had any issues with dehydrated cat - ours just will not drink water, even muddy puddles! the only thing we have been able to do is give her gravy when we make our own (shop bought "gravy" is high in salts etc)...

she ends up with urine and constipation problems, which means she jumps on ya face at 3am meowing her brains off for about an hour in and out the catflap until finally, relief.

yeah i like to share lots of cat bowel info. to anyone who will listen ;)

  • Maybe leave a tap dripping... They seem to like running water, which is understandable.

Also, if it's thirsty, it should drink.

  • aye tried that too .... also bought a special specific cat water feeder thing that you plug in, still nothing - all she likes is gravy.

(and yes also tried non tap water, bottled etc etc, still nothing - water-a-phobia!)

  • Moved over a month ago from a tiny flat to a proper house but my little lady is still confused about sounds in the house. When I walk into the front door she walks right to the back door and when i come into the back door, she runs towards the front door. I can walk through the house and if she's awake she will search for me but I can walk right past her for some reason and when I make an actual sound she looks at me all surprised. So weird.

One room is going to be for the cat and my bicycles. Nice to have a spare room.

  • you mean "...any room the cat decides is her's at any point in time will be her's until she decides it is not, the other for my bicycles.."

  • This is what I have to put up with every time I leave the flat... quite annoying if you ask me. :-P

  • I meant, design a room where she can play and crawl around and do stuff in if she feels like it. Also wish to mount planks so she has her own stairs to the top of the living room.

    Like this:

  • fantastic

but better not let my cat see that picture -- she will want it too !!!!

  • I wan't that behind the couch and in the front so she can walk above the television. Should be fun. Need to find the time and money to make it though.

  • Have you considered making up a big batch of chicken or fish stock using bones or wings and some carrots (nothing too flash). You could let it cool (it may even go to jelly) and dole it out in small portions. You could freeze it for storage too. Might be a cool way of getting hydration and protein into your mog.

Also - if you want to punt some pence you could treat her to some cat milk?

  • Isn't that just re-packaged and more expensive lactose free milk?

  • Not in my country, smell and taste are different and the cat milk is thicker than the lactose free milk.

  • and taste are different

Is this your cat's opinion or your own?

  • You've sucked on a cat's teat?

  • No, not really for convenience. For their health mainly on the advice of several vets I've consulted and my research. I feed them expensive complete dry food from a self-administering feeder, that isn't high in carbs and unlike @anthonyj's, mine drinks lots so they are actually getting all they need without wet food, which vets I've asked says serves very little purpose and is much worse for their teeth.

It's also easier to keep their weight in check by cutting out wet food.

Mind you, it does feel mean. Today is the first day I haven't relented and they have been moaning about it since 3pm!!!

  • Now this is getting worryingly weird.

  • There seems to be so much debate amounts folks about dry vs wet food. I'm so worried about feeding Catface anything with high carb values that I actually have a cat carb calculator on my phone to work out if it is safe to give him. You'd be amazed at how few dry foods, even expensive ones, are suitable. I've only found one on zooplus that is just about OK for him. Out of curiosity, what dry food have you gone for?
