I think, if instead of a BB, they supplied a shitty bike that is already fitted, that would be more practical. "A cargo bike, that can be converter to an ordinary bicycle"

Look up the original triobike, it was a disaster. I like the concept of the lift but I think these bolt on cargo bike kits are a little hard to make work in reality.

As for Bullitt v bakfiets, I prefer the bakfiets and cargo bikes in general with a stepthrough frame. Makes it much easier to dismount if you have a heavy load or childseat on the back.

Thanks for all your replies! The Bakfiets certainly feels easier and more forgiving to ride than the Bullitt. During our short on/off test the wife mentioned that riding the Bullitt made her feel constantly on edge whereas she felt totally at ease on the Bakfiets.

Riding the Bullitt was not helped by the steering rod being connected to the wrong hole on the forks, thus making left turns impossible with the tyre constantly making contact! The stem was the length of a continental pro's/90's mtb and the saddle was an awful WTB number that fitted neither of our arses!

As mentioned we'll look to test ride around where we live for a proper assessment, but will insist on shortening the stretch on the Bullitt to help the wife feel more at home. I heard the Douze is meant to handle very well so hopefully we can get hold of one of those as it has a step-through frame to boot.

For steering/ridability omnium cargo shits all over bullit.

I actually quite like how the bullitt rides -- although I wouldn't say it feels exactly like a regular bike. May take a little while to get adjusted. I did consider the omnium too, but haven't had a chance to try it. Not that I had tried the bullitt either beforehand.

I went to try both Bullitt and Douze Messenger at London Green Bikes and I preferred the Douze. And it is french made...

No idea. Built mine from a frame only, it's had XT/XTR on it and recently switched to the alfine Di2 as I had the kit for another project never happened so was surious to see what it'd be like on the Bullitt (it's awesome).

Not entirely sure what mines worth really as it's not an OTP, SRP on an new one with XT is £3000 vs £2650 for the non-Di2 Alfine.

I'd probably take offers on it if someone was after one!

as above, not entirely sure, given the spec, around £2500 with either the alfine Di2 or a bit less with the XTR 1 x 10?

Yep, aware of the Omnium and I love it, however will need a custom box for the nipper. I'm a more than capable carpenter but very time poor so sadly need to rely on buying one. Will definitely try and test one if I can as it has quite a short wheelbase and overall length.

Yep, the Douze is on the list due to the step through frame and I've read that it handles well due to the cable steering...

Sounds very tempting and sounds like a great setup however the wife is not convinced by the handling which is why we have more test rides planned.

Having ridden them both, what interesting is how it steer, with the Bakfiets, you can turn hard on the handlebar only for the front wheel to turn slightly, whether on the Bullitt, turning hard mean you are turning hard.

All to do with the linkage, easiest way to explain is like the difference in cable pull with cantilevers and v brakes.

I have had a Bullitt for about 3 months now. I can get 2 kids inside and they love it. Great for generally hacking about with kit, school runs, park ice cream runs etc. Love it. The littlest one is constantly putting her helmet on want to "go bike".
