Does anyone know what this is?
Looks like a sensible city bike, except for the poor fucker who's behind you in the rain.

Pretty sure this can be classed as functional?
Sure is! And that's looking damn tidy! Very balanced.
Only thing I can think of is tweaking the front fender a tiny bit, but other than that very nice.

Don't start me on this.... That's a few hours of my life I'll never get back.
That's the best it'll go and it will be staying that way until I find the motivation to tackle it again :-)

I get what you mean. But the rear one is so perfect! You can do it! :D
Maybe it's because it only has two stays. I'd figure four stays give you more control over the curvature of the guard.

For safety reasons it would be better to have the gap smaller at the bottom than at the top; that would allow objects that were big enough to slip in to also be ejected.

Dunno mate. This bike gets/got ridden on some pretty nasty terrain:
My dad asked me if I could build a nice commuter bike for him. So no heavy touring bike, but something with flat bars, disc brakes, mudguards and a rear rack. The frame can either be steel or alu. Do you guys have any recommendations for a frameset?
So far I was thinking about a Genesis tour de fer but I don't really no what the other options are.
