Now, some may wonder why not 2x11 for smaller steps between gears. For me, the mostly used cassette cogs are 15-21 (2 teeth jumps between gears). If you go to a gear calculator site (for example: http://ritzelrechner.de/ ) and regard, say, 46/30 with 11-36 cassette, you can see that there are equal steps between gears unless you use front derailleur to fine-tune your cadence, and I do not see much benefit there. Of course 30T small ring and 11-36 cassette would give a low gear of ≈23 gear inches, but currently I have no need for that.
