Amazing what a new pair of shorts can fo for your motivation.
Also, going to take the plunge on a Garmin Forerunner 230 HRM. Any warnings or criticisms before I do?

Get the 235 instead

I was told that the wrist based HRM is not as accurate, plus I don't mind running with the HRM strap on.
Lol. Strap on

an update: heart scans all clear, just waiting for blood test results on Monday. May do some short jogging this weekend.
Would anyone like a copy of The Ghost Runner by Bill Jones? An interesting tale about one man's battle with the authorities who wanted to stop him from running as an amateur due to a paid boxing fight as an u16.
I also have a copy of Running with the Kenyans that I am happy to send on. Drop me a PM for either of them.

Glad heart scans clear @juanito.
I'm desperately hoping it's cold wet and windy on 13/8, so get your sun hats & factor 50 at the ready.
I'm going to melt tomorrow as the day goes on. Thankfully there are regular checkpoints to top up bottles and I've stocked up on F50.
Pic of food & drink plan (blue lid is electrolyte tab pot), carrying enough for 2 laps but only run/walking the one.

Trek bars are 👌
What run are you partaking in tomorrow?

Too right. Got some of Jureks Balls in the fridge too to nibble on.
Event is Marsden Moors Meander, LDWA that accepts runners and depending how legs feel I may run bits, else its fast hiking practice.
Roclite 295's will be worn.

That was fun & cloudy/windy.
I hadn't realised at time but one point before cp1 I was joint leader. Let them and 2 more go but it isn't a race with published positions so immaterial where finished. 2 or 3 big nav errors after cp2 and spent 2nd half run looking for runners behind to assure me I was on correct path. Kept distance until last Nav error near finish where I emerged just behind the next runner.
Bodged race kit carrying solution worked well. Backpack didn't notice, waist bag & jersey pockets held everything I needed to access plus leg pockets weren't too flappy when full 330ml soft flask in each.
Only refilled bottles at cp 3 and food wise ate:
4 x jurek balls
1 x Trek bar
2 x fig rolls
4 x custard creams (at once between cp3 & 4 when I was flagging). It hurt to decline cake sweets & chocolate at each cp, but wanted to see how it was carrying (much more than) enough.
Finish had pasta, rice pud & cake so I gratefully accepted.
10/10 would do again just for bag patch.

good effort. navigation is a massive thing. I was looking at a la sportiva mountain trial but wouldn't back my navigation skills.

Cheers. If you can keep another runner just ahead it can help (unless their nav is crap).

Anyone else have really badly fallen arches?
I've been running in the Brooks adrenaline GTS, which are really supportive.
Would my foot support its self better if I ran in a shoe that had neutral support? I'd be forced to develop my own foot support. -

Never rely on another runner in the hills.

Glad you enjoyed the LDWA event A. Super aren't they, scoff after and cheap entries. Sounds like a great day

Anyone done Tour de Hellvelyn? Looks like a good end of year run. Also any recommendations for coaches based in S London?

Good news @juanito, hopefully you'll be back at it soon enough.
I'm thinking I might try and take this cross country season semi seriously (lol), going to get back to an intervals session in my local hilly parkland once a week, anyone have any nice workouts to share that'll keep me interested. Got a few favourites but it's nice to mix it up a bit.

Spitfire Scramble was fun this weekend.
considering my last run was richmond half at start of july I was completely unprepared to do a 2 man relay for 24 hours but all told it went as well as could be expected I think.
the plan was to try and get a lap in every 90-120mins between us but we were already at 5 laps by the time we stopped for some dinner at 5.30pm. we gave ourselves til 7pm to get going again and I set off but could feel a very very slight twinge in the soft squishy bit at the back of my knee but I got round and was feeling strong on the home straight so was already reassessing our goal upwards from 6 laps to maybe 7 or even 8 if we could. my mate went out for lap 7 and it was my turn to go out at 10pm for the final lap of the first 12h.
unfortunately about half a mile in it we as clear sitting around had done my knee no favours and the entire back bit was now really tender and it was getting painful to straighten my leg to full extension. I did a bit of run/walking with a shortened stride to reduce the range of movement my knee had to do and it worked up until the hill at mile 2 (the gameplan was to alway walk the 0,5 mile up to the top) unfortunately beyond that point my walking turned to limping and I had to basically hobble the final 3.5 miles to the finish where I dug deep and dig a fair bit of swearing under my breath to run the final straight to get us under the wire for 8 laps at the halfway point finishing at 11:59:50pm
my mate took another lap and then we both settled in for a few hours rest to try and recuperate a little bit. sadly when I got up my knee basically was determined it had done enough and I had to bow out and adopt the role as the primary bacon sandwich maker for the remainder of our time.
my mate went on to do one more lap himself taking him to 6 laps and the team to 10) around 9am but with a newborn at home and not having trained himself either he succumbed to tiredness and we called it a day around 10am.
I am a bit gutted my knee gave up the ghost but i am carry a ton of extra weight at the moment and to struggle through 24 miles in under 6 hours (moving time) on no training is not as bad at is sounds and I think another 3 laps over the second half even if i walked the last would not have been beyond the pale if my knee was sound.
had a blast though, can't recommend the race itself enough. we're already talking about returning for 2017.

Good work Hotbread, sounds like an event to watch out for. Was meant to do a 100km at the weekend, but I've pulled my intercostals and been pretty immobile for the past week. Still, I haven't had a rib injury for a while, so it's a refreshing change from the usual back and knee injuries.
Jurek balls are great, btw!
Received with thanks, nice fit too. Ta.
