Right, I definitely haven't got them on my fixie! I will go and hang the washing out and ponder on the subject.

Much apologies dancing james! I rarely know what I'm talking about!

There is a tubeless thread, it's a tiny bit more of a faff to set up, but worth it for fewer punctures.

Right, I've had time to look up a bit more about the tubeless tyre system and I've got to say it's quite tempting, it would certainly make sense to buy rims that are "tubeless ready" even if I don't immediately go for tubeless tyres. The wife informs me I owe the AA £200 (that's the Automobile Association rather than any other AA) so I may have to hang fire for this month but DT Swiss 460 may be on order soon. Then I'll have to decide on hubs... and that might lead to cassette doubts... followed by chainset doubts... there's going to be no end to the indecision!

zenith hubs.....but what spokes?

and do I dare go 28 straight laced on the front?

At +/- 70kg 28 spokes should be fine. But won't be significantly more aero or lighter than 32

We have to bear in mind aesthetics though, I saw one on "weight weenies" and it looked quite nice.

There is a tubeless thread
There's also a wheelbuilding thread, which this one could perfectly well be merged into.

At your weight I use 18/24 and it's fine. Unless you go offroad or put heavy loads on the bike i don't see a reason to get more than 20/24.

Unless you go offroad
Oops. I do a lot of my road bike riding on gravel on 20/24 and I'm 105kg.

Gravel makes not much difference with some roads around here anyways
Ignore ^^ him. He likes to lord it when people know less than he does.
