  • I'm off to amsterdam for the weekend

where should I visit other than the obvious? I was going to check out Meesterknecht bike shop, and go to the Stedelijk Museum. What are the nice areas where I can just go and have a wander about, with decent bars and restaurants? I'm not into weed, or hookers, but am into beer, bikes and hearty food

  • Museums: Try to visit the Rijksmuseum in the morning of later hours because it can be very busy, the Hermitage is also great if you want something different and less crowded.

Bars: Café Fonteyn on the Nieuwmarkt square is great in the evenings, be sure to order a 'Zatte' or a 'kopstoot' for the full Amsterdam experience ;)
If the weather's good go visit Hanneke's Boom, it's near the central station.
There's also some nice bars on the Linnaeusstraat near the Tropenmuseum.
In the northern area the Tolhuistuin and I really recommend visiting 'de Ceuvel' if the weather's good.

Food: The best french fries can be found at Vleminckx near the Kalverstraat, the best Kebab can be found at Safak, also be sure to get a Kalfsvleeskroket at your local FEBO. For a real restaurant looks on Iens.nl and pick one you like

Avoid the Leidseplein, it's generally full of shit!
