"Chuggin your cancer juice" is the most ridiculous reaction against milk I've ever seen...
-
• #953
I don't react to well if i feel like i'm put on the spot :/ Where's that science coming from though? a lot of it is funded by the dairy companies or advertising related to it, they want you to think there product is good for you, i fell for that shit to. I've had teeth/biting problems since i was born, hurts to bite some stuff so i started to blend it
Just look at the statistics of the countries that consume the most meat and dairy and the levels on cancer, 40g of animal protein is to much, body tolerates it but doesn't like it, there's protein in most plant food, so lack of protein isn't even an issue. The body breaks down refined sugars to fast and doesn't fill you up so your body thinks it needs more, which causes the problems, fruit has fructose, nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and fiber that help your body break it down slower and fill you up, so you don't get a sugar rush and then crash, its just natural energy
also i'm sure they put sugar or some sort of sweetener in most chocolate milk?

y'all keep chuggin your cancer juice, i'm out
The bit in bold was the most sensible statement you have made, if only you could have stuck to it.

Maybe you're calcium deficient.........

Correlation with wealth? Therefore car ownership/usage, obesity, alcohol, tobacco, etc?

Nah, but i used to be
-
• #958
Yeah you're right, i can't believe i'm trying to convince people that fruit is better for you than milk, then getting hate for it
I'll just do my own thing and maybe check in with you guys at a later date
-
• #959
I think that's oversimplifying things a lot, nobody is saying fruit isn't healthy and absolutely nobody here is saying you should drink milk instead of fruit juices.

Its all about the unfermented beer.

......hmmmm fizzy vegemite......

I think he is a bit simple and can't understand the notion of a balanced diet, or that different foodstuffs supply different nutrients.
Fruit is not a better source of calcium than milk. Too much fruit consumed as a drink will produce a massive sugar spike, can affect teeth etc etc. But fruit contain many beneficial nutrients, vitamins etc.
This is not a matter of milk=bad or fruit=good.
However post strenuous exercise current understanding is that protein is a good idea, along with water and some sugar, which is why chocolate milk is suggested as an easy otp option.

*also if you're not willing to put in 10 times the effort for better nutrition, what you doing here
Sorry to rant, but yeah...*
@Aches - I'm not sure what you were getting at in this statement - better nutrition, as others have said, is about balance, science and fact. Now I will concede that you absolutely are correct about the ecological impact of meat and dairy, which is why I eat meat maybe twice/thrice a week. As for large amounts of dairy - meh, on a daily basis I have milk in tea and coffee, maybe a small amount of cheese. I do drink milk frequently as post-ride recovery, so maybe 3 times a week. The impact of dairy is far less than that of meat, of course.
As for the ethics of dairy - I grew up next to a farm with a dairy herd. Did you? I used to see how the cows lived, how they were milked, etc. They looked ok to me, had a decent life. Using the term 'raped' for artificial insemination is a little PETA, don't you think? That sort of language doesn't really help anyone.
My original question - how can we find out FACTS about drinking milk - acknowledged that there's propaganda from both sides, both the dairy industry and the animal rights industry. And most likely, the dairy substitute industry too.
Now, back to your supposed 10 times the effort you've made - the best you can come up with is fruit smoothies? Seriously mate, you need to go back to smoothie school. By blending the fruit, it breaks it down so much that you might as well be chugging on sugar syrup. Your body takes it in far more rapidly than e.g. biting into an apple, chewing and then digesting in the stomach. Or to put it another way - how often do you sit down and eat 2 apples, a banana and a handful of strawberries in one sitting?
I feel like you've fallen into the #wellness #eatclean #soblessed trap. You're so concerned with the look of the thing that you've forgotten to look into the actual mechanics of it. -

I make a variant of these based on my own recipe, which includes mashed overripe banana for its binding qualities, and they're great. Dates are brilliant ride food and PB is the best food full stop.

Used almond butter acc; so tasty. I can imagine banana being really good in these, but how robust are they?
-
• #968
I use banana, PB and honey to bind them and it's perfect. Love almond butter but it's too pricey to out in something I'm gonna shovel in my face when I'm training. Save it for best!

My mind wasn't right before, apologies, working 6 nights a week does weird things to your mood...
Personally i seen some nice farms, seen some dirty ones to, seen even worse footage of places they don't let you see, personally i don't think either is okay, also seen enough to know its not good for you and don't want to contribute to it anymore, so i'm done. you genuinely do start feeling different once you cut out meet and dairy for over a month, i've stopped dissociating with my food and become much more aware of what i eat now, you just get a weird ego boost from it at first but physically i feel to good to go back now
I do actually eat that much fruit in one sitting most days now, usually more, 2 apples, a banana and a handful of strawberries isn't actually that much
also smoothies didn't help me lose weight, I've done it by educating my self and slowly changing my diet in the process, happened naturally, why do you assume i'm doing it for vanity?

The youtube vegan cyclist guy 'Durian rider' makes a few decent Points regarding nutrition. Hes a vegan and a fucking strong cyclist. I have no doubt that stress of a Heavy cycling training load can be fueled by a vegan diet.
Not for me though. Love my Fish and Dairy too much.

• #971
Have you even read any of the nutrition points people have made or are you just on here looking to evangelise about your new vegan status? Have you yet found how few alcoholic drinks are vegan?
-
• #972

That's a load of crap. There's plenty of vegan booze, it makes you equally drunk and the hangovers are just as bad.
-
• #973

What's that got to do with anything? Unless of course you're using information gathered in the depression thread to have a dig at someone?
Stay classy, deej.

He appears to be new to veganism and given he is struggling with basic ideas on nutrition I was not sure if he'd yet appreciate all the other things that might not be vegan.
He fails to address the substantive issues and yet rails against people with bullshit like "cancer juice".

Are we going to have a fight over eating habits now?
Seems a bit lame.
In though obviously.
Don't be like that. Science is science mate. If i can help further, let me also point out that teeth problems can be exacerbated by fruit acids.......
