Well, that's an offer I can't refuse (unless the postage to Sweden is ott). I'm away on holidays but I'll pm you when I'm back home.

You could loctite/epoxy the adaptor on to make it less sketchy, but it provides a road chainline, not a track one. Will work (chainline may be 2-ish mm out), but you may need to modify the position of your chainring with spacers to get a better chainline.

Is this the best solution to convert it to fixed or is it sketchy?
It's still a suicide hub after you've fitted that, but it's fine for getting the chainline sorted. You'll need a rear brake to be road legal.

Are there better ways?

If you order it on eBay from Spnk they will ship with an epoxy that they say is good brakeless. Also how I got my self in the situation was same as you a rear spoke and rear disc. I got a new front axel from he'd and shifted the parts from the spoke to the disc with a longer axle. Gets rid of that weird qr setup on the disc.

@young_gun Cheers.
@mdcc_tester This is the same one for the front right? https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hub-spares/shimano-deore-hbm525-front-hub-axle-assembly-y2sw98010/
The other link had crazy shipping costs to Norway and I can't find it here. -

7 pounds total to norway (+ you can get spacers from them):

I'm after the HB-M525 Axle kit, not just the axle, but thanks.

You only need the axle for your Hed3, the other parts swap over from the existing axle.

Probably true if the parts you're bonding have just come off the lathe and through an industrial cleaning and priming process. For dirty old parts cleaned in situ at home, not so much.

How about these? Thats on my bike with 1x11 set up. 5700 130bcd cranks acetoned with absolute black 42t. Overall less than £80 and weigh 680g for the whole set up. I also have 6800 cranks with Wolftooth narrow wide 42t which I prefer aesthetically that weighs 640g.

yeah, look nice!
was looking for single speed specific cranks, which doesn't leave you many options, but normal road cranks running a single ring give a lot more options.Currently liking the look of the Sram Rival, from 2012, which can be had for not much at all on the bay..
-
• #109489
There is a cheap OTP sram crankset for the same purpose now: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=167870;menu=1000,4,29

i have sram rival from 2012, with Raceface narrow wide. probably the best looking cranks ever

My bro had something similar to that walker adaptor but it had 3x M4 grub screws radially around it that dug into the existing thread! I think it was from iridemodena but that was a long time ago.
Also can you get a disc wheel to run central in a 120mm spaced frame or would you have to cold-set to 130mm?

• #109492
Rival's definitely worth the upgrade over those cheap SRAM 1x cranks imo
-
• #109493
there's also these, which are probably fantastic, but not cheap and also not yet available

Just registered to say: thanks for this discussion/advice on the HED disc track conversion. A month or two ago I was trying to find info to do the same to one I picked up at a swap, and it was nearly impossible to find decent, comprehensive guidance on what I might need to make it happen.
I'm curious about the rear spacing issue Rik mentions as well. My instinct is that you might be able to just chop down the spacers with a pipe cutter (if one is not picky about things being perfect).

You might, but it's not worth it when chainring bolt spacers do the job and can be had in various increments.
Shimano road hubs (before they went all weird with fat axles) usually had a ~5mm spacer between the NDS cone and locknut, making them a doddle to convert to 120mm OLN without messing with the dish.

Only if you get the OCT ones.

Noted and appreciated. Since it's qr currently, is there an equivalent of the above solid axle suitable for a rear wheel rather than front? It seems like the veloSolo link above mentions something to this effect if I'm reading it right.

I lucked out on some ultegra (10speed grey) on ebay for 25 quid.
The HB-M525 that @mdcc_tester posted is for qr no? I'll go for that one.
As for the rear disc. Is this the best solution to convert it to fixed or is it sketchy? http://www.walker-brothers.co.uk/shop/4585910039/fixed-wheel-adaptor/9853032
