The gouges can act as stress risers on a spoke that is in tension, best to replace.
-

I have seen worse, might be O.K. but best to order a new spokes anyway and replace them when you can.
Easier to true the wheel when the spoke are removed normally instead of snapping suddenly.

Fuck's sake.
The silver one was a replacement anyway, and though I have one spare, getting the replacement was a right pain in the arse last time.

Are these spokes still safe to use, or are they more likely to snap now?
Probably both, a broken spoke is rarely all that dangerous, especially in the rear wheel. They might flap about a bit when they break as they are not interlaced, so wear sturdy trousers while you're waiting for replacement spokes.

Any advice on cheap companies to courier a bike frame from Canada to UK?
-
• #78033
I have a zipp 900 clincher disc (like this), and I want one of their track axle conversion kits.
It's not wholly easy to identify which axle is needed but I'm pretty sure that this is the compatible conversion kit:
Does anyone know where I can find one to buy in the UK? It would only get use occasionally so cheap and second hand would be ideal but I can cope with new. Alternatively does anyone know of a compatible 'non brand' substitute?

Are there any jewellers on the forum (amateur or pro)? I'm after a little bit of advice.

Should I build a shitty bike to sit on the turbo trainer over winter or should I just use my road bike? Specifically, is it silly to use a decent group set on a turbo or will it not really wear out if used indoors? The road bike doesn't leave the house over winter.
-
• #78038
If you have the space having a spare bike set up and left on the turbo is by far the easiest.

Putting aside ease + convenience I'm specifically concerned with wether I'll be wearing out a decent drive chain or if a few seasons indoors kept clean won't really affect it. If it's going to wear I'll buy a cheap crappy group and put it on an old frame. If it won't then I could do without another bike in the house.

Please advise on the compatibility of the following:
Shimano Sora FH-3500 rear hub
Shimano CS-5700 11-28 10-sp cassetteaaaand...
Sram Rival 10-sp short cage rear derailer?
And if this works, do I need a Sram or Shimano chain, or it doesn't matter? Thanks -
• #78041
I guess: all fine, doesn't matter.
I put out a broken fridge, washing machine and office chair last night, for the council to collect this morning. I'd arranged it and paid £21 up front.
When I woke up the washing machine was gone, the fridge was on its side and the motor had been carefully removed.
Who did this?

I'm visiting London for about 8ish days. Is there a cheap bike hire company I can grab a bike from for about 3 days to tourist around without resorting to Santander bikes or these?

The Ultegra 6700 short cage rear mech can handle a 30 teeth sprocket max as per specs. Mate of mine is planning to do the Stelvio and has never before ridden any big mountains so he'd rather have something extra... anyone on here tried it with a 32 sprocket, or knows for sure it will work?
-
• #78047
As always it depends on the bike and hanger geometry so what may work on someone elses bike may not work on your mates and vice versa.
-
• #78048
I used a 30t sprocket on my Dura Ace 10-sp equipped Canyon, didn't notice any rattling or touching of gears. his derailleur hanger is the same, as is the geo of the derailleur. trial and error the way to go then? anyone here tried?

• #78049
If you can't get up it on 34/30 you shouldn't be there ;)
Unless, you know, you are carrying your touring gear in which case Tripple.
