Yeah dude, that looks absolutely nuts. The night sky here is literally orange :(
Those living in London that want to see stuff like this (inc the milky way with the naked eye), your best bet is probably Suffolk. Nearest/easiest location to get to with the least light pollution.
Kent is probably the next best thing but you're always going to get the glow of the city from there.

Thanks everyone, it was a really cool experience. I recommend everyone tries to get away from the city lights and looks up at the stars.
