Steel fork vs... A lot changes in that time :)
The more interesting question is what is the difference between the CAAD5 Track and the Capo - not a whole lot iirc

Be interested to hear how you get on with the 28 wide tyres. Widest I could manage was 25c (palesas) mainly due to the rear brake bridge.
-
• #39
If you're set on running a 28c on the front then you can always test it on the rear without fear of being refused a refund by fitting the tyre - presuming you're happy with riding different widths. I know sizes differ between manufacturers but would be pleasantly surprised if you can make a 28c rear work. Albeit with mudguards, but this is with 25c's.

well rear will be clincher except when in disc mode, and that thing is getting a 23/25c gatorskin i have laying around. just getting the 28c tubular because i can and 19/21c is the worst ever. 28c front fits? i have a slice fork around that i know clears 32c but would rather not.

Regarding fitting a 28c on the front haven't got the bike/OG fork with me at the moment so hard to say sorry!
-
• #42
Thanks anyway

28mm tub on a trispoke gonna look shit
-
• #44
@umop3pisdn maybe so but it's only my backup spoke, maybe backup to backup spoke depending on how things go
just found the 26c for $20 cheaper, you win, slightly less ugly haha
-
• #46
Nope - 25 was close on the rear bridge from what I remember, mine was one of the CAAD5 originals though, I don't know if that's changed in later models.
Wound up 4 Lyf

word is geo stayed the same, just hit on the bridge though? any special work to put wounds on? read something about having to space crown race?
-
• #48
Nope - straight on like any other fork
Yeah IIRC after using 25's for a while there was noticable rub on the brake bridge which would indicate 28's are too much - however that can be slightly adjusted for in the rear drop outs - I couldn't be sure, but you don't need larger than 25 anyway, ever!

Confirm CAAD 5 rear brake bridge could cause you all kinds of problems with a 28c.
But not as much as trying to glue a massive 28c tub designed for Zipp ultra wide rims on an old skool 17c trispoke with minimal tyre/rim contact and low tyre pressure.
Enjoy rolling that tub!

cringes at the thought of the subsequent finger torture
Also 1 inch headtube vs 1 1/8 inch.
