  • After use, I unwind it all the way so its set to below zero torque

There's where you went wrong. Unwind to the last line above zero, so that you keep a small amount of tension on the spring to hold everything in place. It probably isn't broken, just something has become disengaged because it had no tension, probably around the cam/pawl or pawl/arm engagement if that's the type of mechanism, but other mechanisms are available, e.g. toggle links

  • This does not fill me with hope that I can mend it.

  • I can kinda tell @mdcc_tester can take it apart and put it back together without having spare bits left at the end.

  • This does not fill me with hope that I can mend it.

google "torque wrench repair" and there are at least a couple of UK specialist shops who should be able to fix it for you, worth at least getting a quote to see how much difference there is between fixing it and buying a new one.

  • Possibly a mistake, RD-5700-GS is only rated to 28T max, you can usually cheat a bit but 32 is probably pushing it too far.

Rated to 28t, but can go 32t with the screw limiters adjusted.

  • Contact Draper, I'm sure you're not the first to have done this.

  • Rated to 28t, but can go 32t with the screw limiters adjusted.

Subject to hanger geometry, and a willingness to accept crappy shifting at the top end because you've used the B-tension adjustment to move the upper pulley miles away from the cassette :-)

  • Best compromise would be running a 12-30t cassette.

  • @ltc

For language learning I would highly recommend Michel Thomas courses. They are not cheap but you can 'find cheap copies on certain websites.'

I did the Spanish course up to intermediate level and it was great, because of the way his method works you start off being able to structure sentences and then build the vocabulary around that, and also start with all of the aspects of the language which are already familiar to you. Plus his accent is great.

    Viel Glück damit.

  • Can someone ID these shoes?

  • Specialized Recon Mixed Terrain
I'm looking to get a pair of those in black...

  • His lip smacking though...

  • Everyone remembers this ad right?

    https://youtu.be/jF6cXnb0_dg

Can anyone remember the parody of it at the time where someone was given a block of cheese instead of a video?

  • i for one and thankful that torrenting has put these sorts of villains squarely out of business.

  • This one?

Oops, should have actually watched your video...

  • But he does have some witty bantz that no humorous text art in the instructions box can replace.

My old market used to be a bit like that.

It's now got lots of lovely street food stalls and beautifully presented fruit and veg. #sadtimes

  • Will these Raceface chainring bolts work with Doval rings and Ultegra 6800 cranks?

  • it's all knitted tea services and hand carved balance bikes in #wn4l - fucking awful.

there's a bloke that flogs hooky dvds off a blanket under the piss-soaked pedestrian walkway en route to nine elms market of a sunday if you're interested.

  • Is there an active house plants thread on here?

  • My house plants are all quite sedentary.

  • I'm getting shit loads of post for previous residents in my new flat. Is there any way I can make it stop?

Thinking of putting a label reading something like "post for Jezston only, return to sender anything else" on my postbox but no idea if postie will gaf.

(also haven't had a chance to get an adaptor to test the mystery cable yet)

  • send back a couple of each then bin the rest

  • I managed to dissassemble and reassemble the dud torque wrench using this video to help me along

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEZ-ajSksHs

Did some ghetto calibration using 15kg of dumbell plates, garden wire, the crankset on my tandem as an anchor point and plenty of trial and error.

Works like a charm now! Thanks for the inspiration.

  • I guess the gardening thread would be the place to ask, it's still gardening if it's indoors isn't it? Or is that just horticulture?

  • Had a derailleur upset today, and part of it involved the chain jamming between the hub and cassette. It has nicked the spokes in a couple of places. Are these spokes still safe to use, or are they more likely to snap now?
