  • Kojaks are all black all the time I think.

    Pricey, but these look nice:

They do the EX for puncture protection or the SL for less weight.

Only place I can find them available involves import from the US.

  • Advice please! I need some new tyres for a trip to the Alps, have been riding GP4000s (meh, and 25c won't fit on the rear) and Veloflex Corsa (lovely, but have freaked myself out with carbon rim overheating explosion stories)

Schwalbe One, yay or nay? And how big do 25c run?

    or

Veloflex again, and accept I may or may not die?

  • Budget? Nothing can touch the new Corsa G+ IMO, but they're pretty spendy. Ones are great tyres if you can't stretch to G+

  • Schwalbe One's are brilliant, they come up fairly bang on size, maybe slightly over.

  • Seeing as I can get a pair of Ones or Veloflex for under £50, I'm not mad keen on doubling that

  • I might risk 25c then

  • If you're around EC1 or N1 at any time then you're welcome to try out my 23mm One's on wide rims to see how they fit your frame.

  • Anyone know a skinny 23c tyre? I'm currently running a gatorskin on the front and it doesn't clear properly. I have a vittoria corsa which fits fine, I want something with a bit more puncture protection though.

  • That'd be really useful, ta! Will PM

  • I've got 23c GP4k you could try on, if that would help? Currently using 25c.

  • My conversation with an Evans employee this afternoon:

"Hello mate, these tyres are £45 on the shelf but £24 online"
    "What website?"
    "The Evans website"
"Oh. Let me check, yeah they're £45 here"
"But they're the same tyre, and you do price match anyway so surely they should be £24"
"They're the same tyre, but we get them from different suppliers, that's why"
"So... why does that make any difference?"
"You can only get them online"
"Ok... well Ribble do them for £27 so can I price match to them?"
"No, because they might get them from a different supplier"
"Again, why does that matter if it's the exact same tyre?"
    "..."
"Ok cool, I'll just buy them from someone else then"
"No problem. Could you put them back on the shelf for me please?"
"Nope. I don't work here mate. Kthnxbye"

  • You just reminded me that I have one of them stashed in a box somewhere. Will try it out, cheers for the offer anyway

  • OEM Tyres I'd imagine ?

The differential between full retail and OEM prices for tyres is ridiculous.
Annoying when shopping for tubs - seeing the differential between an OEM clincher vs full retail for tub (as tubs don't have OEM versions)

  • Thinking of setting my Croix de Fer up with some 700x35 tyres.
Any thoughts on Panaracer Paselas vs. (terribly named!) Panaracer Ribmos?

  • White marks on the sidewalls of my open paves, possibly a bit of fibre showing...? Time to chuck? Irritatingly I think it's because I left them on a wheel with a latex tube which deflated and remained that way for several months. Read that can kill sidewalls - any truth in that?

Generally pissed off with paves. Lots of cuts and punctures, odd given so many swear by them.

  • Any good recommendations for 28mm tyres to run on a defy? It looks like plenty of cleareance with thenstock 25s illnhave to run for the first week of commuting. My default was gators but open to something else

  • Gravel kings!

  • I've experienced that with the old open corsas. Didn't want to risk it so binned them

  • Underinflation can show those criss-cross pattern, this is normal, especially with latex inner tube being more supple.

    You can still ride them, unless they look really bad like this;

  • Thanks. At 24 quid a pop. Good choice. Thanks

  • It's a continuous line about 2mm thick around 3/4 of the tyre on one side, immediately under the green line that paves have. You can see the fabric underneath, but it doesn't look as bad as that one

  • Having taken the tyre off there isn't any marking on the inside or any gaps or anything.... I assume that means no imminent danger of sidewall failure...?

  • I've been having a great time with the new Michelin Power tires.

  • What have you been doing with them?

  • Having a great time, can't you read?
