Hmmm, I asked if he can do Pantone colours at the beginning of the tread... still waiting for a reply!

And Weight Weenies... great engagement.

In which case, who does... or am I missing something?
-

Pantone is for print, so doesn't really translate exactly to paint, but you can get close enough. Neils time machine being an example. I'd always assumed that James did the painting, is that not the case?

The painting is done by his Dad.

Not that it really matters who does the actual painting.

He said at the beginning that it's a group of people who carry out the business.
Originally starting out in my garage by myself, things have really picked up and I've just moved into a bigger premises where everything gets done in-house. I've taken on some new members of staff; wheel-builders, cycle mechanics, pin-stripers etc, each having over 20 years in the trade. We've got some seriously cool stuff coming up which I can't wait to release.
Woah, what a good reason to start ripping on someone

Knowing him personally, I'd take everything James says with a pinch of salt.

A lot of 'we' when he means 'I' ?

Apologies, wasn't ripping i just havent followed the thread from the beginning. I'll exit stage left now...

• #464
Hopefully now ppl will stop fucking PM-ing me about paint jobs ....

Wasn't targeted at you. Just find the (others') negative comments a bit tiresome (I know it's not my thread and all) especially when they're based of something not relevant.
Gonna butt out before I start anything.

I've never claimed to paint the frames myself, you wouldn't want one painted by me!
I do however have the knowledge and understanding of the whole process, it's something I have a huge amount of passion for. Custom paintwork and bicycles are my favourite, combining the two was natural for me.
I started this business with next to no money so the original structure was a little strange, but it was the only way I could get started. Everything has been (and still is!) a learning experience, so I'm very grateful of the opinions I'm getting (good or bad).
Also Flying Gate frame with new chrome! A lot nicer than it was before.
Areas that are to be painted need preparing before we spray it with etch primer. Really looking forward to seeing fresh paint against the chrome!
We also powder-coated the world's most hardcore little people bike... it's tiny!

I'm afraid that spot's already taken by this Talbot:

Looks like an Inspired street trials frame for kids. Thru axles look boss.
Is there a kids bike thread? Remember someone made a balance lopro on here too. -

I'd be a bit scared at what the title to the thread may be.

Another finished (1 of 2!)
The frame was first painted white before yellow went on. Fluorescent (especially yellow) is very hard to cover so using the brightest primer or basecoat is a good idea for coverage. This 'activates' the fluorescent as it's very green and dull if painted onto a regular primer.
The logos are all stencil work, no decals on this frame!

Also, is there any interest for custom stencils?
We have a fantastic vinyl cutter that we use to create frame logos, complex areas that are too detailed to mask etc.
For those of you doing a DIY project, I believe these would be a huge help. It would work on the basis that you'd send us your files and I print and send them to you.
We use industry standard stencil vinyl. It's got a very light adhesive and is very easy to pull away once painted over.
Please feel free to PM me about this should you require any advice or extra info.

And the fact that he doesn't actually paint anything!?
