  • If youre still rocking a GF1 the im guessing you arent shooting much video.

I had a GF1 for about three years the biggest upgrade for me was a view finder and good image stabilization. Ive now be rolling on a E-M5 for about 3 years and absolutely love it! it would be a good upgrade over the GF1 without spending too much.

Do you have the 20mm 1.7? I would say stick to the M43 range. the Sony A6300 looks fucking amazing but your lens options are pretty narrow! unless youre keen on shooting adapted. its also £750 so kind outside your budget

Id look at either an E-M5, E-M1 (a little bigger), Panasonic GX7?

    just my 2c :-)

  • interesting, thanks. yes, i'd plan to keep the lens / stick with m4/3rds.

  • I went from GF1 to GH2, and then to a GX7. The GX7 is amazing, and was real step up in image quality, ergonomics, viewfinder, build quality, WiFi, etc and the price is very reasonable.

  • Hasselblad medium format mirrorless...

  • I'll have one.

  • $8500 though. >>>>>>>>>>>

  • Fuji are also making one. It will probably be more like £3k

  • Starting to think about medium format film again for some upcoming trips... Some climbing which will involve carrying stuff around all day so bulk is a bit of an issue. Otherwise just holiday snaps of sunsets and shit.

Is the Mamiya 645 1000s too much to slog around? It has a proper viewfinder with metering etc.

Also, won't be bringing a tripod but will be using a mix of 160 and 400 iso. Is this a stupid idea?

    It depends.

    It depends.

  • Thanks for concise answer ;) Thinking just keep it simple, bring the X100 and maybe eos30.

  • I'm selling a cheap Sigma dp1 in classifieds : spam

  • : ]

..well, I'm sure you're aware but it's just about how much you want to shoot bigger negs.
    I'd do it.
Who was the nutter on here that went climbing with an RB67 regularly?

  • I'm guessing it was @nefarious

Got access to borrow one so might just do it. Also, we're not doing real climbing, just bouldering and eating lots of cheese.

  • Pack a Holga (and some electrical tape).

  • iPhone camera is double fucked. Something that has Aperture control and shoots decent video and under £400?

  • get a used Lumix LX100 or just increase your budget slightly and get a new one – does high bitrate 4k, slow mo, the works. Has an aperture ring and a relatively large enough sensor to get some shallow depth of field. And it looks like the bollox.

iPhones are actually better than most compacts when it comes to video so you have to go quite high-end to get similar features (120,60,30 fps, 4k et al).

  • Cheers BRO, hunting one out now... missed a S/H one off ffordes for £390 not so long ago... le sigh.

  • Quite happy with my D5300.

Got a good price and quality is good for a crop. (Same image res as full frame)

I hate 'gear' so a relatively small / light camera / tripod with the option of a 300mm is just enough.

The flip screen has also been invaluable where I cannot get a clear shot etc.

It also has a nice frame on the viewfinder which it's 'more commercial' successor does not.

  • hmmm that actually doesn't look any better than an iPhone really...

edit: maybe not when viewed larger...

  • How shit are those Olympus body cap lenses?

  • What straps do you guys use while riding?
Because any other casual strap lets the camera spin around on my body which gets annoying really fast, especially when the camera hits your junk.
It should be usable with the RX100III and OM-2n since i own both

  • Spam alert: selling my very under-used 6D kit...

  • I put my rx100 in my jersey pocket...

  • Has anyone any experience with the Olympus OMD EM10?
I'm looking at it for my girlfriend, something to teach her controls on and she has her mum's old OM10 so I thought it would be nice for her to have a matching modern version but I haven't got any first hand experience of them. Any input appreciated

  • A question for the forum's collective photographic mind.

If you had £300 to spend on a camera to be carried in your (roomy) pocket and used for taking photos on mountaineering holidays, what would you get?

Needs to be mostly point and shoot, stowable in a jacket pocket and fairly solid.
