  • @sirlarry - Definitely sounds like it could be a virus. Difficult to diagnose but more good reason for running at an easy pace, and getting good sleep.

Is anyone at the Richmond Running Festival on 18th September? They've introduced a marathon for the first time this year, and I've volunteered to be the sub-3 pacer. In related news, MsPub has been selected to run for GB in the World Champs 50km race in Doha (eek!) in November, and will be using the marathon as a training run. She's not raced beyond marathon distance before, and apparently pointing out that 50k is only an extra 5 miles isn't very reassuring. :)

  • Good work in the 5k. Have you got a target for the summer? I've seen a couple of those lee valley races advertised, what's the course like? I thought it might be a bit undulating for a fast time?

I'll come along and watch the pacing @philpub. How many people have raced beyond marathon distance at international standard?

I had a bit of an unexpected trip to the doctor today after a few headrushes too many and ending up on the floor yesterday. Got to go to the hospital for blood tests and some heart stuff tomorrow morning. Also been informed i need to rest, so the summers track racing plans are going to take a back seat. Hey ho. I'll become a top cheerer on.

  • ^ hope all's ok dude.

  • Hope you're good @juanito, need to be back for cross country season!

  • Good luck at the hospital, I hope everything is okay!

  • @juanito Good luck at the docs.

As for the 5k, thanks. The course is pretty bland if im honest but has a decent flow to it. laps are 1 mile long. It is undulating but I found the downhills were graded well enough that you can keep control and maintain a high pace. The up hills are not even that and are short and not sharp. The tarmac is wide & super smooth aswell so you never feel boxed in or trapped.

Nothing specific in the diary yet. Looking at 10k's at the moment. Want to go up through the distances.

  • Ah heck, good luck with that. No harm getting the heart checked out anyway, so hope all is well.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for those arm straps people put their phones in when running? I've never used one (and hopefully never will) but my sister has requested one for her birthday.

  • Y-fumble. Problem solved.

  • That was what I ended up with when looking for one.

Never actually worn it since buying, but I'm confident I have the best one available sitting on the shelf.

  • Got Spitfire Scramble in less than 2 weeks, haven't run in nearly 2 months. going to be a huge sufferfest.

decided if we're going to do it may as well do it in style... got my mate to knock us up a team logo. camp banner and t-shirts being produced as we speak.

  • No running this weekend so looking at affordable kit carrying options making use of what I have, plan is to test setup in Marsden Meander next weekend.

3l waist bag from Andy_K just a bit too small on it's own, also a bit bouncy/rubs when chocka full.

Was considering OMM Ultra 8 but everything stuck away then. Plus £35 cost.

    Found this video:

Jacket looks perfect but is £££, however...

I've got an old Camelbak Hydropack which fits the drybag gear he packs just right. Might need to mod this with a chest buckle strap and thinking of diy soft bottle pouches adding too.

This frees up some space in 3l bag so more stable/comfy and focus on stuff I need to access on move.

The last part of the plan is using my merino cycle jersey so jacket is stored in middle rear pocket, snacks either side for access. Feels stable and will allow same access to jacket quickly as in vid, plus hydropak and waistbag will both sit under it nicely if it rains.

This means I'm desperately hoping it's cold wet and windy on 13/8, so get your sun hats & factor 50 at the ready.

Pic shows this setup modelled by kitchen chair.

Tl;dr spotted jacket vest thingy is v.nice but a bit pricey, testing diy setup to achieve similar.

  • Cross-posted from the Dads/mums thread - does anyone have any running buggy recommendations?

  • @rhb like the diy setup much more than the vest tbh seems to do exactly the same thing. Change to SS Jersey & arm warmers if it is a scorcher??

Just signed up for a 10k on Clapham Common in October. Any recommendations where I can find training plans outside of RW website?Dont think I'm quite confident enough to write my own...

  • Change to SS Jersey & arm warmers if it is a scorcher??

Yeah that'll be the plan if hot.

Other carrying capacity I'd forgot about is the Alpkit trail leggings have good leg pockets that will hold softflasks & snacks.

Not sure whats where in world of online Training plans these days, relied on RW back when I started out.

  • Despite my initial reservations I'm beginning to enjoy the Hanson's method as prescribed by @HatBeard. I really enjoy the variety of runs it puts into a week and since you're expected to run every day pretty much you stop begrudging the running days because it's just something you do.

  • ^glad to hear it. it's mostly a good kind of knackered and somewhere along the way you'll hit the tipping point where even though the runs aren't easy you realise you've gotten much better at running without realising it.

  • The intervals will always suck though even when they're rebranded as "strength". I also need to return your book by the way, let's meet up soon.

  • I still have the copy of Ultra Marathon Man by Dean Karnazes that Greenbank sent me ages ago. Does anyone want it before I pass it on the my local charity shop? PM me your address if you do.

  • Are those armband phone holders awful to use? Got a group run tomorrow and don't want to leave my phone in my bag...

  • Nah they're fine. You forget about them quickly (unless you have a massive phablet I guess...)

  • Anyone want this Santini Mapei vest for a forum donation?

Size Medium (Euro sizing - More like a S or XS)
Never worn apart from to try on.

  • Definitely. Would cover postage too if helps?

Edit just saw your edit, is that skinny & long or would 6ft2 mean it'd be crop top?
