  • Same people but they have expanded their offerings since then

  • Aye, Peckham. I'm currently there Mon/Wed/Fri, early till late afternoon. Be sure to ask for me (Alex) if I'm not out the front :)

  • Ganapati in Peckham is superb and offers an array of vegan dishes, clearly specified on the menu. I recommend the veggie thali - you can ask them to swap the raita for an alternative dairy free bowl of something.

They now offer takeaway though JustEat and Deliveroo, I believe, but if you can, I recommend visiting in person. Really nice vibe.

  • +1 Ganapati is so good. Keralan is probably my best ever fave food ever :)

  • Ganapati is amazing, really like it there. I'm 1 min walk from the takeaway place, and love their dal!

Apparently another place in Peckham that's good (friend has been there) is Persepolis . All veggie and can veganise pretty much all of the things in there. You need to book cos it's pretty popular; and definitely on my list of places to go.

  • Shameless spamming but if anybody lives/works around Dalston/Bethnal Green/Shoreditch/Old Street/Hoxton/Clerkenwell/Soho and would like free Cook Daily or Home and has yet to take advantage of the £10 off offer from uber eats then please PM me for a discount code. Better yet, if you txt me before you order, I may even deliver it to you in person!

  • You may not have seen Miss Mouse's recent post that she works at Persepolis:

    :)

  • Cool, I might take you up on that! Is it only delivery or can I show up for a meal? Soho based.

  • You mean, you haven't been?!

Evening booking is essential and between 1 and 2.30 but its not usually rammed before 12.30 or after 3pm.

We were really excited in the shop today as the printers sent Sally the first copy of her latest book (another vegetarian one actually). They're all truly a labour of love.

I find well written cookery books so captivating and inspiring, even if I never follow a single recipe word for word, and the best books become treasured old friends. My mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were the same. Generations of feeders and food-porn addicts ;)

  • I've not been in yet no, although it's definitely on our list. Walked by it so many time, but you know the way it is: it's the things closest by that you do last, for some reason!

  • The level of ignorance about veganism in some quarters is still astonishing:

    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/aug/10/parents-children-vegan-diet-prosecuted-italian-law

I'm sure it's partly because of those very rare cases in which a vegan child ends up malnourished. In view of the fact that across Europe large sections of the population are considered as suffering from malnutrition, these cases are probably newsworthy because they are so rare, but they distort the picture, which may be the intention in some cases.

  • By contrast, on the occasion of the Vegan Society's research showing that an estimated 542,000 people in the UK are nutritional vegans (I think it was around 366,000 for people ensuring they don't use any animal products apart from food), here's a more positive article about some children (can't remember if I posted it before):

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jul/19/parents-raising-vegan-babies

  • I just received this from the Vegan Lifestyle Association:

Are you raising your baby/child vegan?
The BBC is looking to interview someone TOMORROW in response to the ridiculous news that an Italian Minister wants to jail parents who raise their children vegan.

Can YOU help put the record straight?
The interview will be live but will be positive and in favour of explaining that it is possible and also healthy to raise children vegan and you will have the backup of a doctor and a dietician in your corner.
More info from the Producer is below.

  • Apologies if this is a bit spammy (in this of all threads), but vegan charity Viva! has launched a spinoff directory site myvegantown.org.uk - listings, reviews and recommendations of vegan-friendly establishments of all sorts, in all locations. It's completely free and closely moderated so shouldn't turn into a tr*padvisor mess. Business owners as well as customers are welcome to post details; the London section is still relatively sparse so it would be great to see it filling out with some of the places mentioned here.

  • How does it differ from happycow?

  • Well to be honest it's not very different in concept at all.
However it's largely UK based, it's not just about food (anything vegan-friendly can feature, from campsites to shoe shops to local activist groups and one-off events/demos), and the emphasis is more on local community involvement than instant consumption.

And importantly for businesses looking to promote themselves, the Viva! name is well recognised and respected in the UK among thousands of vegans & vegetarians who've never heard of Happycow. There's no reason why both (and others, I'm sure) can't coexist.

  • Cool, it was a genuine question (without actually looking myself) not having a go at them or anything :)

I think HC has started to add a few more things like health places, but the community/events side sounds like an improvement. Will check it out!

  • Its only delivery although you could order while stood outside the restaurant and just sit down and eat

  • I checked out the new vegan doner place at the old petrol station on Shoreditch High last night. Having never eaten a meat doner in my life I don't know how authentic it tastes, but it was massive and delicious and £7.50

  • So who's keen on another food meet?

    Should we do Persepolis?

Vegan döner in Shoreditch sounds good, too.

  • ^ Club mexicana have just opened up a new stall in Camden Market too

  • Should we do Persepolis?

    :)

  • A couple of Peckham friends are doing this Menu Next Door thang on Thursday: https://menunextdoor.com/shortened/lcwzz

Sounds pretty good - and they are top notch cooks.
