Well yeah, the builder needs to be experienced .. do you need to lock it? If not y u no carbon?
-
• #12678
If you can find me a carbon frame that is custom fitted to me, has internal dynamo routing, takes discs, is 1 1/8th, has a custom front rack mounted on mid fork blades, has a bi laminate head tube, has a nicely curved fork, has a 68mm threaded BB shell, includes a Keith Anderson paint job and a custom stem then I am all ears. If not - I will stick with a Winter. Which is happening. Had a conversation with Eric at length yesterday and it's moving forwards.

I'm reminded of Vanilla's work;
Disc can work, it's the brake levers that usually look unusual against the sleek frame.

By Winter, you mean...
-
• #12684
Yep. We're calling it a 'Sport road/Light rando' build. So no rear rack or lowriders, but integrated lighting, fairly sporty geo, modern groupset (prob hydro mechanical Shimano)...

What happened to the NFE?
-
• #12686
Ditched it. Too heavy, wait time too long for what it was, too 'off the beaten course' orientated. Too similar to cross check.
Winter will be a proper sprightly road bike.

Fair enough :)

I agree, you'd enjoy that particular bike.
Keep frame light and springy like a race bike but the fork take a little bit of weight, I highly recommend that, as a small light bar bag is surprisingly useful.
Main reason why I enjoyed my Oaks more than my Elephants (latter is obviously a tourer).

Yep. Eric said:
'From our conversation yesterday:
- Custom Series sport road/ light rando bike
- Integrated/ internal lighting
- Small front rack and small load (to be determined)
- Side tack seat stays, bilam construction, "classic" feel'
So that's what we're going off.
We came to this because I told him that whilst my Trek is very good at what it does (being stiff, light, climbs well) it doesn't bring that childhood smile to my face like riding my Cross Check does. I've spent enough time on that Trek in the last few months to know that it's a tool, not a bike I want to rack up loads of audax miles on.

I might have done a little lol there.

Another proof that Flite and inline seatpost work, and that the theory according to which it's apparently anti is BS...

Very nice. Winter Cycles are proper things made well. His instagram turns me on, although I don't normally fancy lugged frames.

I made some modifications to my tackle bag today. Had some old Rixen Kaul panniers which I stole the clickfix mounts from.
Works well so far...

Nor do I. But I will totally fucks with a bi-lam head tube.

Great work on the clickfix integration. What fork are you using there?
This bike is so rad, but the aesthetics of the rack doesnt do the rest of the bike justice imo. Looks too gappy/ airy, like it needs more rubber to fill it out. Im sure its hella functional, but id go for something smaller/ more elegant. How is the fishing bag fully filled when it comes to handling? it looks focking massive.

Tak.
Thorn disc forks (52mm rake).
I like the Surly Nice rack and you wont see it when panniers are mounted.
The tackle bag is mainly for commuting duty but it handles fine with groceries etc., but I wouldn't mind having weight lower, hence panniers for touring. I might buy a proper Rando bag some day, but for now this works.
@spotter has some 2" tyres for me I am going to try out soon. Maybe that will beef things up :) -
• #12698
Nice. I really like your bike. Colour is good with dirty black tyres.

This sounds like a great project! If I could justify another bike it would be something along the same lines. Make a thread I'd be interested to see it progress.

Thanks man. The purple is growing on me and the bike can be surprisingly quick and fun if you want it to...
hehe
