Spent about 6 hours yesterday wiping Mrs Hammer's faulty old macbook pro, reinstalling OSX then updating to latest version (twice), only to eventually discover that the 'fault' was her trackpad, hidden somewhere in the room and connected by bluetooth being held clicked down.
It now works perfectly but the software I wanted to use it for doesn't run on El Capitan.
Fucking macs.
