Your right! It would definitely looks like it wouldn't suit my all-city.
Thanks anyways.

You could just get the fancy 853 version, which comes with a carbon fork...

Where does the stay split? By the bridge?
-
• #109393
You can see it, about 2 inches down from the bridge

Not carbon but Pake does a disc fork: http://www.pakebikes.com/product/CAD8ED/Disc+Track+Fork
Max is 28c but I have seen someone squeeze in 32c (with just about space for a note to slip through).
Only problem is it's not easily available in the UK and shipping it from the states cost a bomb (120 including taxes IIRC).

found a really good condition 7800 group for £215 including 2 rear derailleurs and 2 cassettes so chucked that on - looking for wheels and will have a rummage to see what I find in the parts bin in terms of finishing kit....

anyone selling some 42cm spotter bars or similar?

So i got a full-ish 600 tricolor grouppo - fd and dtshifters not pictured so i guess im rebuilding the steel frame - PUCH Vent Noir ii - as a sort of townie beater rat .. Even have a set of tricolor wheels that are sitting around .. Forever amazed how durable this grouppo is.. Despite some pitting and scratches it seems flawlessly operational. Threadless carbon fork kinda will ruin the period look .. As will the os stem and compact bars but hey.. Big hands

Flip that stem and get some wound up forks

No way look fork is way more appropriate :) +1 on negative stem

Good to know cheers, every other shift feels way off, with the intervening ones bang on. I'll just keep fettling.
Road and MTB have the same cable pull.
It will work but bear in mind it will feel a little harder to shift because of the difference in cable pull.
My theory is that the gear housing may not stand up to the extra stress but so far it work fine.
