Dodgy batch? I was dubious when I got it out of the packet but actually find it a joy to type on now. No it's not an IBM Model M but have no trouble adjusting to the angle/action. Also had no trouble with space bar :/
*The only problem I have is the bluetooth on the computer not recognising from time to time so I tend to have it plugged in via lighting cable.

Must just be my typing style as I dont really get on with laptop keyboards in general, and lets face it this is a laptop keyboard.
And perhaps this unit is dodgy as the spacebar only seemed to recognised being pressed towards the centre.

Having said all that, is there some kind of little tool I can get that makes a regular 'PC' keyboard more happy with a mac? Things that would be nice to change is having to use the 'windows' key instead of CTRL for copy pasting, the @ and " keys being the wrong way round and 'Home' and 'End' jumping to the top and bottom of the page rather than the start and end of a line.

Any way there is some dirt or something under the space bar? I guess they are laptop keyboards but I love them, just bought the latest with built in battery and even less movement on the keys and it makes the previous model feel clumsy and sloppy... I can't imagine using a PC style keyboard - would be like a type writer!

...Boots iMac from internal 5400 rpm disk to see if its bearable so I can use the external SSD boot disk for something else.
Nope.
Photoshop took a minute and a half to start.

You need to change to a "British PC" keyboard layout. If they don't include one as standard these days you can get one from the logitech website (under support for their keyboards, possibly bundled with other things).
You can swap the function keys in the system preferences anyway

No, get used to it and never use a PC (ugh) ever again

Oh God.
I selected about 200 files and right clicked 'get info' hoping to get the total size of all these files.
Oh God.
Oh Jesus.

Ha. Command+W will be your friend here.

Thanks very much!

Get individual item info: Select the item(s), then choose File > Get Info, or press Command (⌘)-I. A separate information window opens for each item.
Get summary info for multiple items: Select multiple items, hold down the Control key, then choose File > Get Summary Info.

Anyone here ever replaced the optical drive in a MBP with a second disk/SSD?
Am thinking of doing that, partitioning it and using one of the partitions for Boot Camp or just using it to expand storage.I've been using the 256GB SSD as an external boot drive for the iMac at work but it's 70% full so I migrated back to the painfully slow internal 5400rpm drive. Bit of a shame because it worked beautifully but I just don't want to spend £300+ on a large capacity replacement.

Anyone know what I could get for a water damaged 2014 MBP 15" Retina?

Some rice?

If it really is 100% borked then all you can really do is sell it for spares/repairs at the usual place.
-
• #9468
I put my 500Gb SSD in the hard drive slot then put the old drive into a caddy in the optical drive slot... No complaints here, works a treat...

Likewise

Cool. I'll do it. I was reluctant to lose the optical drive but you can still use it externally with a sata to usb cable.
-
• #9471
Which reminds me, I still have my optical drive knocking around somewhere if anyone wants it?
-
• #9472
Yeah BRO, can you burn me your fave iTunes playlist, all 15 songs, and pop it in the post to 2003.
Sorry.
Anyway, I half expect the rumoured old bar to be something like this on the next MacBooks, but then Apple always disappoints so prob not.
-
• #9473
Haha! yeah... I use it for photos that have been developed and scanned... Might ask the lab if I can send a usb stick with the film next time.
It would be utterly bananas if Apple did something with that leap motion thing but I expect it will just be a fancy F-row that doubles as an application-specific tool bar, or to just show the Siri animation... If the horribly under-powered GPU they inevitably give it can handle it, that is.
-
• #9474
Only a horribly underpowered GPU for the top model! Christ sake.
Jokes aside I still use my external for the exact same thing, so jokes on me.

And no headphone jack.
Why would you want to move more when you can move less (quicker and more efficient)? And the space bar does recognise pressing across the entire width?
