• Hey :)

    I don't take anything badly.
I understand and thanks for your worries.

What you must know is the fork weight is around 2kg...
As I red on Surly's website the steel used on their bikes is 4130 Chromoly, double butted for the frame and not for the fork...
I think it's pretty heavy and it can handle the disc tab plus the eyelets. (I'll take a picture on the other side tomorrow)

You also must know that I won't ride this bike like a pro racer, it's a pub bike. So I'll ride it as slow as my blood alcool will allow.

But I keep in mind what you said, and I'll tell you if it fails (me or my friends if I brake my bones).

Edit : my bad, the Steamroller fork is 1kg. Not 2.

Doesn't matter dude, the tubing isn't design to withstand the force of the disc brakes against it, he can braze it as much as he can but it doesn't escape the fact the tubing is too thin.

    1⅛" Steamroller fork 1.0kg uncut
650B Straggler fork, 5mm longer A-C and 60mm longer steerer, plus disc tabs, hose guides and rack and mudguard eyes 1.1kg uncut

Where do you think Surly are hiding all the material in the Steamroller if it's not in tube walls at least as thick as the Straggler?

Of course, @vequatrenligne could have saved himself a lot of trouble by just buying the Straggler fork, and people wouldn't have to criticise the tacked-on rack mounts, but he's probably not going to die from fork failure this week. He probably will die from the endo caused by those tacks failing when he loads up the rack, but that's a different question :-)
