  • Is the rotor touching the fork leg?

  • You're right it's the tightest gap of this forum :)

  • wow thats very close..!!

  • Dartmoor Miami Vice ;)

  • Whats that around the seatpost and clamp? Heat shrink?

  • Just a piece of tube (700x25-32 I guess) :)

  • Welcome to the chirp chirp club! :)

  • Mate, don't take this badly, but I don't think your setup here is entirely safe. If this is mig/mag welds onto forks, I fear there's not enough penetration to make a strong bond. If it has in fact been hot enough to bond strong enough you might have compromised the forks. Also your forks are not build for disc brakes it seems. Silver soldered fork Crown and fork legs might not be strong enough to take load from braking.

  • Hey :)

    I don't take anything badly.
I understand and thanks for your worries.

What you must know is the fork weight is around 2kg...
As I red on Surly's website the steel used on their bikes is 4130 Chromoly, double butted for the frame and not for the fork...
I think it's pretty heavy and it can handle the disc tab plus the eyelets. (I'll take a picture on the other side tomorrow)

You also must know that I won't ride this bike like a pro racer, it's a pub bike. So I'll ride it as slow as my blood alcool will allow.

But I keep in mind what you said, and I'll tell you if it fails (me or my friends if I brake my bones).

Edit : my bad, the Steamroller fork is 1kg. Not 2.

Doesn't matter dude, the tubing isn't design to withstand the force of the disc brakes against it, he can braze it as much as he can but it doesn't escape the fact the tubing is too thin.

    1⅛" Steamroller fork 1.0kg uncut
650B Straggler fork, 5mm longer A-C and 60mm longer steerer, plus disc tabs, hose guides and rack and mudguard eyes 1.1kg uncut

Where do you think Surly are hiding all the material in the Steamroller if it's not in tube walls at least as thick as the Straggler?

Of course, @vequatrenligne could have saved himself a lot of trouble by just buying the Straggler fork, and people wouldn't have to criticise the tacked-on rack mounts, but he's probably not going to die from fork failure this week. He probably will die from the endo caused by those tacks failing when he loads up the rack, but that's a different question :-)

  • Just take care :)
I had a bad crash last winter due to some diy rack failure.

  • Are you in europe? where did you get the Fatboy's from in gumwall please?

  • I'm in France, and I called a lot of Specialized shop. only available in full black.
They're not new, they're 2nd hand but very good condition.... :/

  • Ive gotten lucky once aswell*, and got a fresh pair off a guy that pulled them off a shop/ consumer bike first thing. Other than that, i cant find anywhere in europe either :/

  • Wanted to sell this once built up, but decided to bring it to Croatia and keep it as coffee racer, almost there.
    EDIT:pic on next page

  • Here's where I'm at with the tourer. Needs more black. And real brake levers. Also a front mech but w/e. Going to replace the front rig with a pizza rack when they're finally released I think, hurry up and ship them to the UK please Specialized

  • Looking v cool

  • Maybe spray the guards?
