I'm going to do this when the weather gets better as it's where my folks live.
So I'd be interested in good routes too.

if you plan on doing this - I am happy to hook up with you in the Banbury region (wroxton) and ride you to Leamington?
In fact, if this turns in to a group ride, i'd come down and start from Marlyebone.... -

I did this route in the summer. My goal was to do the old A5 from london to wellington shrophire. I got lost and didn't quite make it. I'll try and find the map I used.

BTW, I'd be up for doing it in a day over the summer. Would be good prep for Dunwich Dynamo.

I wouldn't bother passing on the map if I were you ! It sounds like it was faulty.

I'm not doing the route for a while, going for my bros wedding so don't want to do it in a day then be unable to walk! Had thought of a stop round oxford, but also thinking of going a bit further and having an easier day in.
Thanks for all the suggestions and coments

okay, i might just organise this anyway.. as i live nr marylebone and folks in banbury.. so this will figure somewhere around whitsun (late may).. 8.00 start - 4.00pm finish in a beer garden.. team of six would be good..
plenty of options to rest / exit back to london early..
i'll post under races/rides.. after tour of flanders..al

Agreed, Grand union canal all the way, I'd start near Uxbridge so you missed out the busy London section. Being as you are prepared to take two days over it this would make a lovely easy to to follow route with many nice pubs on route, I'm sure some of them will have rooms.
If you go for a nice country road route don't underestimate the time spent navigating, the canal route removes this problem.

Planning on riding to Leamington Spa from London on August 20th. I've drafted the following route, trying to avoid canal towpaths and major A roads, and broadly following the train route for any bailers.
Anyone have any suggestions for alterations?

Doing this on Saturday from 8 am if any one else is heading that way.

The Uxbridge road is a bit grim. I would think about riding along the Strava route to the Chilterns even if it is a bit bumpier.

Good luck!

Excellent, cheers. Looks much more fun.

Route was alright in the end. Chilterns were fun. Aylesbury to Banbury was direct but really flat and boring.

I tend to hop on the train to Hemel when riding to Leamington Spa. Leaving London is grim in that direction.
I need a good route from London to Leamington spa, thinking of a stop-over for a few beers mainly, and it is about 95 miles. Not the train before anyone puts that forward!
Thought a 70, 25 split might be a good way, alowing for a bit of a lay in, to recover.
Where should this go? Wanted? Rides? I don't know, but more than happy to be moved!
