Rode fixed because my geared bike is unloved, unused and filthy from a very wet ride in Easter and because I knew I wasn't going to be improving on any previous bests due to very little riding in last few months because of injury and long holiday spent surfing rather than cycling.
Went with 48x16, which I think was a really good choice. The pace for the first 20 miles was crazy fast, seemed like I was over 25mph a lot. Hardest part for me were some of the long downhills after Box Hill. Somehow managed to not cramp even though there were threats within the first hour.
I was a bit nervous about my non regulation bike having just the front brake, so was on best behaviour, as were most people.
Two food/water stops, one smoke break, and one stop to retrieve my pump which fell out of a pocket = 4h59 :)
(@Riddles @rhowe I was also around Wimbledon round 10am, but I was inelegantly zigzagging the full width of the entire road all the way up)
