  • I'm not familiar with the forum jersey but it was a black bike and I think the rider was mainly wearing black. If you were anywhere near Wimbledon at 10am riding a single geared bike I am in awe!

  • My favourite was "I fancy chris Froome to win this"

Even the other presenter was shocked into silence

  • The guys who crashed near Ripley is ok, arm heavily bandaged but not broken and bad bruising but generally OK, Well enough to be back on facebook.!!!

    Link?

  • 'On the right',,, same prat did it to me coming into a fast roundabout as though he owned the road , I just held my line and said that as Im in front it his problem not mine,,, you wouldnt get a racing car move out the way, tosser

  • I am not too sure that he would want me to disclose too much without his consent.

    Now

  • Not to wishing to defend the tossers but
    1) it wasn't a race
    2) on track days slower cars are expected to provide sufficient space for faster cars to pass through corners

Ive had my fair share crashes. Some my fault, some the fault of others. What I don't get is why they never say in the safety briefing for a sportive simple things like: leave space for faster riders on the right and always use hand signals when changing line to either overtake or avoid an obstruction.

  • So you thought it was a race LOLZ

  • BBC radio just now " Dutchman Tom Boonen won the London Surrey Classic today".. Cant get the broadcasting corporations these days..

  • Well even cycling news had an off day today....

  • Hello!!!

Nice to see the forum jersey and skinsuit in the field of rapha and club jerseys.

There were some guys out there who was definitely taking the ride a little bit too seriously and the sad thing was that some of those 'fast riders' can't even hold their line in a group ride pretty much sums up the whole ride in my books.

I saw another forum jersey today too, @owlz sorry I didn't have the chance to see/catch you! =(

  • He was just letting you know that he was there. Good communication. He probably does actual races, in which riders are constantly alerting each other to their relative position on the road/track

  • There are always people who are just tossers but I yelled 'right' or 'hello' in a firm and clear tone a few times today, to warn against swaying out of line and into the bit of tarmac I'm about to use. Others did the same to me and nobody complained.

  • If you get upset about people faster than you wanting to pass you safely then you're a bit weird.

  • Started at 8:10, got caught behind the first crash, but not diverted. Need to work out how to do the Garmin upload to check how much time I lost there. Still, I'm happy with my 8:01:58 (not so much the 0:01:58, but still...)

Thanks to the two people that DaS'd me, it gave me a little extra to keep going.

Really hope both injured riders are OK.

  • If you get upset about people faster than you wanting to pass you safely then you're a bit weird

    THIS

  • If you don't like it, get fitter so no-one can overtake you.

Oh, hang on. Then you'll be doing it! Lol

    BT

  • It's not a fucking race, unless I'm mistaken?

  • You have missed the emphasis on comms and focussed on the racing scenario and that's your problem not his.

40km/h racing vs riding in a group of mixed abilities very quickly is just as dangerous

  • In other Ride London Classic news, here's Italian Herman van Springel winning this year's race in 1973.

  • There is a difference between letting someone know you are passing which I would also do, and pulling dangerous shit whilst thinking shouting whilst doing it negates the dangerous shit.

No-one is getting paid, it's a fucking sportive and we all have to go to work tomorrow.

I'm sure loads of people riding today have raced and have skills, but its essentially a mass participation charity ride and not everyone will have the skills or confidence to deal with it.

  • I haven't at all, cheers though.

  • My bugbear is people who think that sticking an arm out then gives them the right to pull a manoeuvre - look over your shoulder you utter thundercunt.

  • Rode fixed because my geared bike is unloved, unused and filthy from a very wet ride in Easter and because I knew I wasn't going to be improving on any previous bests due to very little riding in last few months because of injury and long holiday spent surfing rather than cycling.
Went with 48x16, which I think was a really good choice. The pace for the first 20 miles was crazy fast, seemed like I was over 25mph a lot. Hardest part for me were some of the long downhills after Box Hill. Somehow managed to not cramp even though there were threats within the first hour.
I was a bit nervous about my non regulation bike having just the front brake, so was on best behaviour, as were most people.
Two food/water stops, one smoke break, and one stop to retrieve my pump which fell out of a pocket = 4h59 :)
(@Riddles @rhowe I was also around Wimbledon round 10am, but I was inelegantly zigzagging the full width of the entire road all the way up)

  • Nice time - ThNRC represent!
