  • Finished. My plan was to do no stops and try and get round in 4hr30m. My riding time was 4hr30m, but I had to stop twice, so my total time was 4hr37m. Stop one was when my Tilquist Garmin mount broke, dumping my Garmin on the floor. I stopped and went back to get it, and collected it from a kindly joggerist who'd been passing. Stop two was an unplanned loo stop.

Highlight of the day was on a descent about 70 miles in, when a gentleman in a Kingston Wheelers top overtook me bellowing 'ON THE RIGHT, ON THE RIGHT' like an enraged walrus, his legs thrashing violently to try and get enough speed to pass. He just managed to get past, only to make a total horlicks of the next corner, which for him involved handfuls of brake, a locked-up rear wheel, a sideways bike, a loud 'FAAAAAACK' and a total absence of apex. I LOL'd and asked him on the next climb (as I passed him) whether he'd ever considered cycle training. He didn't take it well.

  • 'On the right',,, same prat did it to me coming into a fast roundabout as though he owned the road , I just held my line and said that as Im in front it his problem not mine,,, you wouldnt get a racing car move out the way, tosser

  • Not to wishing to defend the tossers but
    1) it wasn't a race
    2) on track days slower cars are expected to provide sufficient space for faster cars to pass through corners

Ive had my fair share crashes. Some my fault, some the fault of others. What I don't get is why they never say in the safety briefing for a sportive simple things like: leave space for faster riders on the right and always use hand signals when changing line to either overtake or avoid an obstruction.

  • So you thought it was a race LOLZ

  • He was just letting you know that he was there. Good communication. He probably does actual races, in which riders are constantly alerting each other to their relative position on the road/track

  • If you don't like it, get fitter so no-one can overtake you.

Oh, hang on. Then you'll be doing it! Lol

    BT
