Not sure, if the tracker is correct then it looks like he's in a square in Clermont-Ferrand that has a couple of hotels in it. Not far from the first checkpoint, so maybe a good nights sleep followed by a massive shift coming up?

Although you have to question the accuracy on these things. If hippy's is correct then he slept on a main road between an industrial estate and a field.

Hippy just checked in at CP1, back in the saddle after looks like a ~5 hr nap.

Has the weather been bad at CP1?

There was a young chap on our ride through Italy two years ago. It turned out he had only once ridden more than 100 miles in a day before. Never really done any long rides. He was young and fit and quite fast. He had heard people talking about chamois creme but never really paid attention.

After three days he was sore. On the fourth day, it was agony to pull on his shorts and so he had a bright idea and popped some underpants underneath his shorts.

He was removed from his bike, his shorts and his underpants after a couple of hours.

The physio was horrified by what she saw. A raw and bloody mess.

She worked her magic. He somehow avoided an infection. He was back on the bike after a day and a half of recovery and even managed to get married a few months later.

Torrential rain last night just as the first riders arrived.

Poor @skinny has a chest infection. He's seen a doc and has medication, is resting up before continuing.

That would have probably dictated decision on whether or not to stop, maybe

Really sad news about @skinny. Hope he recovers to ride to Istanbul.

What he learns this year will only make him better and more determined for the future.
