this used to be mine a few years ago, now a friend's selling it. Frame was built by mercian, so I'm pretty sure it's worth the asking price just for that. needs a fair bit of saving on the parts front but the aero seatpost is still there. would make a great resto project for a bit of early tt history

Sid Mottram was around ages ago! That looks super modern compared to the rest of the Mottrams I've seen (including the 50s(?) one I had for a bit). Not doubting the provenance, it's just rad.

Pretty interesting: ebay.co.uk/itm/401155600792
Thanks for the pointer - it turned up today.
It's a bit of a curious beast I think - reasonably light for a biggish (~57cm) frame (1870g, forks are 660g, so only just over 2.5kg F&F), and has nice details. Threaded stops for derailleur cable adjusters, braze-ons for a rear mudguard (including a stud on the brake bridge), a strangely chunky d/s dropout which I think might be to give clearance for a largish smallest sprocket. But the brazing - though fine - isn't quite as tidy as it might be and there are a few patches where the paintwork isn't great.
I'm also curious about the down tube - a hefty, multi-faceted bit of metal. The seller said it was pentagonal, and fair enough, it's got five major faces, but it's also got three smaller ones, so I'd probably have said it was an (uneven) octagon. Looking at the Columbus catalogue, it's got the right major dimension (44mm) to be one of the Spirit HSS tubes, but doesn't match any of the cross-sections in the only sectional pic I've found: it seems closer in shape to a couple of the Zona profiles, though I don't think it's a precise match for either the AE or AF sections.
Ah well, given that it's unlikely to be a current tube, no doubt I'll never know, at least unless someone knows of a Columbus archive anywhere.

Glad to hear this stayed in the family and do post a project thread, wouldn't mind seeing some of the details close up. Congrats

someone buy this, it's at £98 with a day to go... it's way too big for me..
Says built by Raleigh, not sure how accurate as I don't know Colnagos but it sure looks like a Dynatech!
