The HSE currently has no remit on public roads. That can and should be changed to stop construction companies washing their hands of the carnage caused by their contractors.

Same here on Upper Thames St not far away. So sad. RIP and condolences to friends and family.

RIP, I'm not looking forward to the next person who will be killed under similar circumstance again.

Her name was Tao Ying (Ying being the first name).

RIP Tao Ying. You looked so young...

This really isn't the appropriate part of the forum to speculate on fault in road traffic incidents or debating responsibility for road safety.
Happy to discuss in a thread elsewhere but don't get into it here.

How often does this happen in London?! All the time it would seem, that fatalities are being reported because of collisions in central London. What a waste of life!

more thoughts and prayers for Tao Ying, her family and friends.

I was very sad to hear of the death of the rider in Harrow, a man only a couple of years older than me but that sadness cannot compare to that felt for this young woman, barely older than my daughters. What a waste of a young life. What a horror for her parents and family.

RIP Tao Ying. I must have passed through only minutes before it happened. Paid my respects again this morning (after the die in). So many people busy going about their day in apparent ignorance of the grotesque disruption to so many people's lives caused by this tragic incident. Utterly saddening. I pray for those affected to find the strength to see purpose in their lives.

Just a few hours after it happened, people were blindly grabbing Metro papers with Ying's death as the main headline within 30 metres of where she'd just been killed. Jangled the senses.

Who here is going to the protest on Monday evening at Bank junction? It looks like significant press will be there. CH4 news, ITV London, Radio 4 etc It'd be good to see a few faces from this forum there too.

WOW!
Crossing everything it goes ahead. -

Wow and more wow. That will be quite a coup if if goes through. Can't help but presume there'll be massive resistance.

Yet despite everything reported the police decided a prosecution was not worthwhile.
-

Sickening.
Fact is if they decide they want to prosecute they'll do it on whatever trumped up evidence available to them. -

Remarkably, this is said to be a four-day inquest, so there are bound to be more news stories in the coming days. More terrible revelations:

I do wonder to what depth the link between the broken sensors and an expectation by the driver for the sensors to work and alert them rather than they look at mirrors will be explored.
Her partner must be in a living hell right now watching as it's discussed and it all comes out. Wishing them strength.

The inquest has taken a day less than originally stated. Warning: the following link contains a picture of the moment just before the fatal impact and also considerable victim-blaming by the police collision investigator.
So so sad. Rest in peace, rider.
