Don't think I've seen this here, a nice behind the scenes look at the John Lobb shop. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07g9q28

Is ~ 110 pounds too much for a pair of sanders grain shoes with a lightweight vibram sole?

New? Ok price is say if you really dig them, but I think there's better alternatives at that price range, esp 2nd hand

I have a seriously nice pair of Vibergs for sale as I am finally conceding they are too big.
Of interest to anyone? Sized Viberg 7.

I generally expect tasselled shoes to accompany ankle-exposing red trousers, a loosely tucked white or light blue shirt and a public school bray.
Not a fan. Can't understand why everyone seems to be selling them.

These are the epic soft upper shoes I spoke of a few pages back. They're off for a through sole and heel, fingers crossed the workshop doesn't make a hash of them.
Original repair, must be a couple decades old (or an oldboy cobbler).

Also picked up a pair of Timberland Stormbuck brogues, the older waxy brown ones. So now I officially have a pair of waterproof shoes.

Not real leather shoes but real good shoes. 8000 miles. All weathers. Sole pads replaced twice. Total cost Inc pads £170. Per mile? 2p. And another 4000 miles to come. Giro Republics. I'm happy.

There's an Edward Green sample sale on at the Old Truman Brewery until Sunday. Oxford style shoes are down from £890 to £395, fancier ones £495 and boots more than that.

You can always buy the Carmina ones, they're on sale at the moment as well.

As my meermins have worn in and got a little softer, I'm falling for them more and more. Lovely to have waterproof shoes with the dainite sole as well.

Mrs jaw bought me a belated birthday present in Mallorca today. Well pleased with my new Carmina Oxfords.

Walked past this place which I never have during office hours before. Stopped and met Eric who owns it and has been a cobbler for 30+ years, following his father's and grandfather's path.
He's currently making some "interesting" shoes for someone who is going on Britain's got talent.
I'm going to take some shoes for resoling (£55 for hand stitching new sole to mocassins) and will report back.

Used to be on Borough High St didn't he?
I've had simple stuff done there a few times, not for years. I seem to recall his mood was somewhat variable, not that I mind that. -

The Charlie Chaplin/NHS/Laurel/Hardies are back, slightly annoyed they didn't use a black sole, but I can dye it, or it'll wear off anyway, and they've done a decent job otherwise. Now to get on with many more creases and layers of wax/balm/polish.

And on to my next shoes project, of having a normal size sole put on these, while retaining the suede wrapped outsole and the original (or maybe replace) layer of thin crepe for the sole. Current quote stands at £200 (£70 without retaining the suede wrapped outsole, but it's nice) so hunting for somewhere else.

I've gone down this road..great memories
Ask for a "proper" dainite sole, and be clear you want them "balanced" and any cobbler should sort you out with a new sole and heel
