Thanks for the pointer - it turned up today.
It's a bit of a curious beast I think - reasonably light for a biggish (~57cm) frame (1870g, forks are 660g, so only just over 2.5kg F&F), and has nice details. Threaded stops for derailleur cable adjusters, braze-ons for a rear mudguard (including a stud on the brake bridge), a strangely chunky d/s dropout which I think might be to give clearance for a largish smallest sprocket. But the brazing - though fine - isn't quite as tidy as it might be and there are a few patches where the paintwork isn't great.
I'm also curious about the down tube - a hefty, multi-faceted bit of metal. The seller said it was pentagonal, and fair enough, it's got five major faces, but it's also got three smaller ones, so I'd probably have said it was an (uneven) octagon. Looking at the Columbus catalogue, it's got the right major dimension (44mm) to be one of the Spirit HSS tubes, but doesn't match any of the cross-sections in the only sectional pic I've found: it seems closer in shape to a couple of the Zona profiles, though I don't think it's a precise match for either the AE or AF sections.
Ah well, given that it's unlikely to be a current tube, no doubt I'll never know, at least unless someone knows of a Columbus archive anywhere.
