The first thing they teach you in martial arts, after all the bowing etiquette, is exactly that - shush your lips up and don't get in a fight in the first place. If that fails then you should run away quickly. Only if that too fails and as a last resort should you perform an awesome jumping spinning hook kick to the hench builder's chops.
I've always got away with options 1 and 2 so far.
