Bought a movement on Ebay, stripped it down fully including removing the jewels. Cleaned all the parts, reassembled and lubed.
Bought case, hands, dial from Otto Frei.
I got the confidence from the level 1 Timezone Watch School course online but there are loads of free guides if you're particularly practical. I think the $75 for the online course was money well spent though because you learn a lot of tips and tricks and get taught exactly how things work.
ETA also have really good online documentation including which oils to use.

Looks great Stonehedge, you should be really please with that! Remind me again, was this built from some kind of a kit or did you take a movement, rebuild it and then put it into a case?
