  • looks like a good recce weekend. Can't beat waiting for a pub to open.

  • Blonde & Jacobs Ladder

Loads of nice sounding strong'uns that would have floored me. #lightweight

    I still owe you beers...

  • Aye was good fun. Your strava'd runs in and around the mountains look ace.

  • Andy you'll smash that October run . You've done so much prep it will seem easy.
But then there's the actual conditions

  • Cheers dude, lots prep to go but confident I could get round without many Nav errors. Dark & shit weather may slow things a lot!

  • Yes, it was amazing. We built up the length and challenge quite nicely. A short, flatt-ish run on Thursday. Our Friday run was over a pass to St Germain and up Bettex for the Tdf. Saturday we did a trail route within the forest with some more technical descending. The final proper run was billled as 'if you only do one route in Chamonix do this one' by the guidebook and it was excellent: up to le signal (about 6 minutes slower than Kilian Jornet does it), then along to the Refuge du Plan de l'Aiguille and down just over 1000m. I had pretty tingly hands and feet by the end of that one.

It was a great holiday, running in the morning and watching cycling or sightseeing in the afternoon / evening. A total ascent of about 4000m so just under 1000m per run.

I'm struggling to upload any pictures.

  • When I grow up I want to be @juanito

    That sounds amazing!!

  • Some excellent runs taking place! Nice work.

  • ...mile 4, 24 minutes. Hahaa, brilliant! I've just unilaterally created a new committee post of Club Expedition Secretary and you're it. Seriously, I'd love to do something like this, maybe for next year's Tour. (Or the year after that...) Or do the Mont Blanc Marathon, which has been on my bucket list for a while. Basically, one way or another I need to get to the Alps!

I've spent best part of the last couple of weeks getting over the remnants of a stubborn cold, but it cleared up by the weekend, so I made up for lost time with an endurance-fest, 17.5 mile long run including lots of off-road on Saturday (SE London rather than alpine, but still reasonably scenic), then a lovely bike ride to Whitstable on Sunday, 92 miles altogether including the ride back from Bromley South. I've managed a 5 + 6 mile run double yesterday and a rowing session this morning with track to follow this evening, so fitness doesn't seem to have suffered too much.

  • That all looks like a huge amount of fun and hard work!

  • up to le signal (only about 6 minutes slower than Kilian Jornet does it)

    Ftfy

    Seriously though, awesome sounding trip.

  • Things are starting to quiet down a bit here, might be around next week if you are?

With your 8kg of kit - are you taking all that for the event itself or just the 2kg mandatory stuff?

  • Aye, should be able to find an evening in the next week or so.

With your 8kg of kit - are you taking all that for the event itself or just the 2kg mandatory stuff?

Not all, won't need sleep stuff or stove etc. This will hopefully make me a bit quicker & certainly more comfortable!

  • Has anyone got one of the newer Garmin Forerunners?

I would like to know whether you can have a silently vibrating alarm to wake you up so your wife doesn't go apeshit when you rise at 5am to go cycling?

Nobody who works in a shop in Hong Kong seems to anything about the products they sell.

  • Spotted my reflection in a patio door when bouncing my baby on my shoulders yesterday. It was far jigglier than i'd like. Have thrown money at the problem by splurging on some new running shoes. I will be hitting the streets again this afternoon. Grrrr!

  • I use my Fenix 3 for this. Works well but I'm a light sleeper.

  • It was far jigglier than i'd like

    Jiggly babies tho. Cute.

  • Jiggly babies are cute indeed. They're also very bad for your health. Jiggly baby comes with a year's free sleep deprivation. Sleep depriavtion stress = self medication with booze = bad diet = constantly feeling shafted = no exercise = MOOBS!

    The fatward spiral stops here.

  • And back pain. Don't forget the back pain. Leading to less running. Leading to more moobs.

  • Yes, just tried it out, works well.

  • Doesn't help that when they start on solids you feel it's obligatory to finish off what they don't eat to prevent waste. That and cooking a little bit more than necessary just in case they're really hungry. (I always end up doing this with fish fingers...I'll do 3 just in case...Nom nom nom).

  • I'm currently camping at the foot of Glamaig on Skye, and apparently the record for running up and back down is a totally ridiculous 44 mins, including only 13 mins to descend. Insane. I might go for a jog along the loch later.

  • This is Glamaig. 13 minutes! I genuinely don't think I could roll down the mountain that quickly.

  • Ah. Camping on Skye. Every childhood holiday. Midges. Cold. Waking up in a puddle. Character building stuff. Enjoy!

  • Great - thanks. What model?
